Program Description San Joaquin Outdoor School is a five-day residential outdoor education program serving students from San Joaquin and surrounding counties in California. Nestled in a second old growth redwood forest in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Camp Jones Gulch provides a unique setting to study forest and riparian ecology. The tide pools, marsh, and ocean of Pescadero serve to provide the ultimate in outdoor education.

Job Description Naturalist Interns lead groups of 15-22 students (5th and 6th graders) on educational hikes, exploring habitats on the Coastal Range – redwood forest, chaparral, mountains, Pacific Ocean, tide pools, brackish marsh, pond and stream ecosystems. Curriculum and experiential based activities tie directly to the California State Science Content Standards. Interns lead meals and evening activities including: night hike, ocean prep class, music social, and campfire programs. The internships also includes staff training and weekly inservices.

Qualifications BA or BS; Social Security number; driver’s license, current CPR and First Aid; experience working with elementary aged children. Must commit to work the entire length of the contract.
Salary $250 a week
Benefits $20 a week medical reimbursement
