The Marin County Office of Education operates the Marin County Outdoor School at Walker Creek Ranch, a comprehensive residential outdoor science school and Conference Center Program located in West Marin County at, 1700 Marshall Petaluma Road, Marshall, California. This is a rural environment offering programs to both public and private sectors. The outdoor school is dedicated to providing quality educational experiences for teachers and students that inspire appreciation and stewardship of the natural world. | Job Description | The Ranch Naturalist assists outdoor education staff in the preparation of materials for classroom and outdoor training and instruction in the Natural Sciences for 5th and 6th grade students. Ranch Naturalists lead hikes in various habitats, including bay-oak woodlands, pond, creek, tide pools, sand dunes and the ranch garden. They also conduct the training program for high school age students and parents, who serve as cabin leaders. In addition, Ranch Naturalists conduct presentations for elementary school students to prepare them for attendance at the Outdoor Education Program. There is some participation in evening activities and additional responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Outdoor Education Leader. | ||

| Qualifications | Graduation from high school or equivalent and study and/or work in the natural sciences equivalent to one year of college level work; familiarity with outdoor interpretative techniques and curriculum; thorough understanding of Natural History, Ecology, Natural Resources Conservation, Agricultural Sciences, and Outdoor Recreation; ability to work cooperatively with school personnel and students; speak and write effectively. Must possess and maintain a valid California Drivers License. | ||

| Benefits | Classified employees receive a comprehensive benefit package which includes participation in one of six health plans in addition to paid dental, vision, life insurance, paid sick leave, vacation, and holidays.
