Año Nuevo State Park

Join us for a guided walk to see the elephant seals at Año Nuevo State Park.  Winter is the peak season to see one of the largest mainland breeding colonies in the world where males battle for mates and females give birth on the dunes of northern California.  Sea lions and other marine mammals as well as birds come ashore to rest, mate and give birth.  This will be an unforgettable experience to naturalize, meet and hang with other AEOE educators, rejuvenate our passions for the natural world, and educate ourselves on one of California’s amazing wonders!

Recommended: Car-pooling into the park to keep it cheep.  The tour itself is a 3-mile/2-hour hike out to see the seals.  Come prepared for a hike through the dunes.  Folks will want to bring a light snack, water, binos and a camera.  The weather can also be unpredictable, be prepared.  The seals like it stormy so we’ll hike rain or shine.

Accommodations are available nearby.  Contact Butano State Park for camping option. Anyone interested in staying at Pigeon Point Light House will want to make reservations quickly, as they will fill up.

Pie Ranch Barn Dance Option:

You are also invited to join a jubilant crowd of friendly people for the Pie Ranch rollicking potluck and barn dance in the roadside barn (0.8 miles north of Ano Nuevo).  Pie Ranch is a working farm, which also hosts youth from regional high schools to participate in farm-based programs and activities.  This is a community event, and usually draws a large crowd of environmental educators from the surrounding area. Celebrate the spirit of community with sharing locally grown food; meeting fun outdoorsy people; and then spinning, laughing and dosey-doing together into the night.

Pie Ranch is located at 2080 Cabrillo HWY, Pescadero, CA.
