Member-at-Large [Section/State]

We have several "members at large" who have no official board title, but whose experience, expertise, energy, ideas and opinions are vital to keeping the organization going. Many of these have been past section chairs or state presidents, or held other board positions. Many have been involved with planning conferences and their experience is of utmost importance to future conference planners!

Members at large include (but are not limited to) the following: past officers or other board or council members who still wish to remain involved, members volunteering for significant contributions to conference committees, liaisons to other organizations, other committee chairs or members, members interested in a future board or council position, or just members interested in helping out in any way.

Some of our Members-at-Large have included the following:

Dan Allison - past president, past webmaster, great advisor for all things nonprofit and board/bylaw related
Stephen "Hoppy" Hopkins - past chair, and current advisor and "cheerleader" NAAEE Liaison
Kathleen Mitchell - past chair, past CSTA and COSA Liaison, Conference committee member, etc
Kate Mahhon - past chair, past activities coordinator, past Liaison to COSA, CSTA, etc
Tamara Palmer - past Charitable Giving Coordinator for Conferences, past workshop presenter coordinator, etc
Paul Grafton - past Keynote and entertainment Coordinator for Conferences, among other things
Judy Toothaker - past conference workshop presenter coordinator
Nancie Pike - past regular contributor to the AEOE newsletter
Savannah Brown - past northern treasurer, past northern membership, past co-chair, Conference planner, etc.
Tonya and Rich Mandl - Conference entertainment gurus, newsletter printing and mailing, etc
People on the Inclusivity Committee - Duffy Ross, Deepak Dathatri, Emily Wang, rikki shackelford (also past chair)

A Member-at-Large of the section board of the Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education will:

  1. Bring expertise and perspective to AEOE in some way, such as from non-traditional areas such as classroom teaching, nature centers, day programs, higher education and agencies.
  2. Provide personal expertise in management of the organization.
  3. Be an active, voting member of the Section Council or State Board, participate in discussions, attend section council meetings, and vote on issues.
  4. Attend at least 2/3 of the section Board meetings during the year. These include the Fall conference and Spring conference, and other meetings as scheduled.

Note: The section Member-at-Large is an appointed position (Article VIII, Section G through I and L). The Member-at-Large serves at the pleasure of the section Board.
