The section Nominations & Elections Coordinator of the Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education will:
Attend fall and spring conferences, the winter Board meeting, and other Board meetings as possible.
Manage the operation of the nominating committee to accept nominations and to actively recruit members for both elected and appointed section postions.
Work with the newsletter editor to ensure that nominations information is available to the membership in the winter newsletter, and that candidate statements are available to the membership in the spring newsletter. Work with the webmaster to ensure that the same information is available on the website.
Appoint an elections committee of at least three people, and manage the operations of the elections committee to carry out elections at the spring conference.
Establish and/or use written procedures for nominations and elections. Set the deadline for nominations based on the date of the newsletter and the spring conference.
Work with the conference coordinator to set a time at the spring conference for voting to occur. Ensure that elections occur by secret ballot and that other sections are not involved in vote counting. Talley votes and announce results during the conference.
Make recommendations to the section Board for activities or procedures which will increase participation in the Board by the members, enhance the qualifications of elected and appointed Board members, and increase member participation in elections.
Notes
The section Nominations & Elections Coordinator is an appointed position (Article VIII, Section G through I and L). The Nominations & Elections Coordinator serves at the pleasure of the section Board.
The nominating committee will be appointed by the section Chair, no later than December 31.
