President [State]

The State President of the section of the Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education will:

  1. Set dates for state meetings in the absence of standing meeting dates, or when a quorum of the board cannot attend on the standard date
  2. Set Agendas for state meetings
  3. Run/preside over state meetings
  4. If also section chair of state conference section, spearhead state conferences (coordinate or delegate) - at least oversee that conference planning happens smoothly
  5. Head up statewide issues (or delegate), such as non-profit status, unification of budget, membership, etc. - or delegate and follow up
  6. Check in with people on action items from the state meetings, follow up and make sure they get done (State Coordinating Secretary (SCS) may do this - President can delegate. SCS is officially delegated and SCS will communicate w/ president.)
  7. Communicate with the board and councils about what's going on - keep board and councils updated on issues and decisions
  8. Keep focusing on and refining the mission and vision of AEOE as an organization - redefine the organization or keep it defined - help guide us toward our purpose and in meeting our mission
  9. Prepare position statements (on issues) - be voice of AEOE (with help of SCS and state board - can speak for AEOE when within guidelines of mission statement, get advice otherwise)
  10. Assist Chief Financial Officer (CFO)/SCS in managing budget - oversee budget along with CFO/SCS

Notes:

  1. Traditionally, the President is the Chair of the section hosting the annual state conference that year, but this is not required.
  2. In general, the board leads organization and President leads the Board, but only has one vote as a member of the board, and no veto powers - basically, the President is a faciliator and coordinator of Board efforts, not "the boss."
  3. It is recommended that the president stay active as a "Past-President" to assist the new President
  4. If the president is able and willing, and the Executive Board so wishes, they may stay on as president for two years to keep continuity on longer-term goals of the organization.
