2006 AEOE Southern Fall Camp-out Conference

"Discovery in the Desert " Dates: November 10-12, 2006 Place: Joshua Tree National Park, Indian Cove Campground Cost: Only $20 (with advance registration) Includes: Camping, Workshops, Entertainment Does NOT include: National Park entrance fee of $15/car - plan to carpool! Meals (prepare for camping) REGISTRATION DEADLINE Saturday, November 4, 2006 CONFERENCE IS NOW AT CAPACITY! No walk-in registrations will be accepted, due to very strict NPS camping and parking restrictions.

General Information

• Date and Place: November 10-12, 2006 at Joshua Tree National Park, Indian Cove Campground
• Cost: $20, including workshops, entertainment, camping, if registered by 11/4/06, $30 walk-in rate. Family rates: $10 per child - children 5 and under free, note- please be aware of Rattlesnakes, Mountain Lions, Coyotes and Bears (oh my!)
• Getting There: Carpooling is encouraged - parking is limited at the group campgrounds, and the park entrance fee is $15/vehicle. Click here for an online ride share forum if you can offer a ride to others, or if you need to find a ride. Directions and map to conference below.

• Entertainment: Rhymin' Reason and friends, music, campfire, drum circle, more TBA!
• Bring: Camping gear, *water, firewood, and food/cooking gear for meals plus a little extra to share for the Saturday potluck dinner, plate, cup and silverware, naturalist gear (binoculars and bird books!), notebook and pencil for workshops, Crazy Creek chairs are a good idea, instruments, journals to share, songs to share, your enthusiasm for a new year of teaching! *Water is available at the ranger station, but not right in the campground, so bring water for the weekend, containers to fill up, and some extra to share.

Volunteers Needed: Let us know if you can help in any of the following ways: Bring firewood or water; Help organize/set up Saturday potluck dinner; Boil water for communal use in the mornings (got a big propane burner and kettle or pot?); Use your vehicle for carpooling/caravaning to some workshops; Present a workshop (Presenters' conference fee waived); Registration/Sign people in; Post conference clean up; Attend Sunday board meeting; Other? Weekend Weather

Weather.com says highs in the upper 70's, lows in the low 50's

The Weather Underground says highs in the lower 70's, lows in the mid to low 40's

Be prepared for warm days, cool nights!

Things to bring:

• Camping Gear: sleeping bag, pad, tent or groundsheet, food, utensils and cooking gear
• Water (for drinking, cooking, washing) - if you have large water containers, bring those - water is at the visitor's center/entrance, not right in the campground.
• Firewood - we will have a communal fire each night - if lots of people bring only a little firewood each, it will be plenty!
• Musical Instruments / Toys (Frisbees, Hacky-Sacks, etc)
• Naturalist Gear (guidebooks, binoculars, etc - if you have a telescope for stargazing, bring that, too!)
• Chair(s) (those Crazy Creek chairs sure are nice in workshops!)
• Yoga Mat for Yoga Workshop!
• Notebook/Journal and writing/drawing implements
• Ideas to share!
• At least 2 other people in your car! Parking is very limited!

Directions Joshua Tree National Park lies 140 miles east of Los Angeles. You can approach it from the west via Interstate 10 and Hwy 62 (Twentynine Palms Highway). Indian Cove Campground, where the conference is being held, has its own entrance: Pass through the town of Joshua Tree where the main entrance is found and continue on Hwy 62 to the Indian Cove Entrance. Carpooling is stongly encouraged - parking is VERY limited at the group campgrounds, and the park entrance fee is $15/vehicle.
