AEOE 2005 Statewide Spring Conference:"California's People and Places"Events: Job Fair |
April 15-17, 2005
We will be having a job fair at the conference, in the Maple Room, along with the Tea House, Vendors, History Display, Silent Auction, and Registration, so come on by! Employers will have program information available throughout the weekend, and "after" lunch on Saturday (12:30-1:30pm), a representative of the program will be there to answer questions, take your resume, or just "schmooze"!

Marin Conservation Corps, San Rafael, contact: Laura Fromm (membership expiration 3/1/07) MCC was started in 1982, and is the oldest local, and private, non-profit Conservation Corps in the country. Today it provides job training to Corpsmembers, ages 18-30, by working on projects that help to preserve the beautiful environment in Marin. MCC offers educational opportunities to its Corpsmembers too. Our Education Department helps them earn their High School Diploma, GED, or college credit. MCC also offers educational awards through its' AmeriCorps program, whereby Corpsmembers earn education awards that can be used for future college classes, or to pay off existing college loans. We are located in 2 facilities, one in San Rafael, and the other in Novato, California. We help provide job skills and job training to over 200 Corpsmembers every year. We look forward to another 20 years of service to the youth of Marin County, and the natural environment. |

Clem Miller Environmental Education Center/ Pt. Reyes, Point Reyes; Scott Wolland; Expiration 4/1/06. Established in the early 1970s, the Clem Miller Environmental Education Center is an overnight facility which can accommodate up to 80 people. The Ed Center consists of a main building housing two large classrooms, teaching aids, library and nature exhibits. There are five rustic dormitory cabins. Approximately 1800 students from 45 school groups stay at the center each year for 3 to 5 days. One of the goals of the Ed Center is to provide a low cost opportunity for students and teachers to experience the natural world first hand. The fees for 2004 are only $11 per person per day. |

Coloma Outdoor Discovery School, Coloma, Kindra Garcia (membership expiration 12/1/05) Coloma Outdoor Discovery School (CODS) is a non-profit, outdoor learning center which has provided educational programs since 1990. Our campus is located on the banks of the South Fork American River, across from the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park. The residential program offers one to four day gold rush programs for fourth grade students from public and private schools. Science programs for fifth and sixth graders, and Team Discovery Ropes Challenge programs for older students and adults are also offered. | Regional Learning

11/18/05 (Clovis City Schools). The RLC outdoor education school offers
science, history, and challenge programs ranging from an afternoon of
study to a 5 day stay, especially designed for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.
We offer a variety of day classes and evening activities at the RLC site,
as well as a number of exciting field trips. Students stay in rustic
dorms equipped with bathrooms and showers, and eat in our dining hall.
Our classroom is the beautiful Stanislaus National Forest. The LAIR (Life's
Alternatives Involving Risk) Adventure Academy is geared for 7th to 12th
grade students offering a variety of adventure activities that integrate
science concepts and help to build leadership skills. Programs are tailored
to the individual needs of each group, and range from 1/2 day ropes course
program to 5 day stay. Overnight tent cabins, food, instructional materials,
equipment, and instruction are all provided. There are on-site and off-site
classes available year-round. Choose from a variety of classes and activities,
and tailor your program to your group and time frame. |

143 acre campus is located within an oak woodland that includes six
species of oaks, large pines, and stands of beautiful manzanita. A
perennial creek adds a cool, riparian zone for study. In the
spring, wild flowers abound. Gray foxes, squirrels, raccoons,
and mule deer are abundant. Sixteen acorn pounding-stone sites

The Headlands Institute is a private non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational adventures in nature's classroom to inspire a personal connection to the natural world and responsible actions to sustain it. Our educational programs engage students in hands-on science and environmental education activities in a natural park setting. Instruction includes outdoor activities, learning games, team-building exercises and classroom instruction in fully equipped natural science laboratories. Environmental School (WES) is unique in its location, for there are
many examples
of past people's diverse activities. During the week, students may
visit an historic graveyard, hydraulic mining sites, old stamp mills,
former lumber camps, abandoned gold mines and mining ditches or even
an abandoned settlement. The general environment near the facility
is a mixed forest of manzanita, pine and oak. Nearby are deep canyons
with tall ferns, fresh water ponds, many streams, and a man-made
lake. There is also an abundance of wildlife living at or near the
campus. Deer graze on the campus lawn, and bald eagles nest
and feed within the area. Clear Creek provides a habitat that attracts
great blue herons, ducks and many other animals. |

Great Basin Outdoor School, Lake Tahoe; Sue Jacox; Expiration 3/9/06 (program in Nevada, on the east shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe, not too far from Placer County) Great Basin Outdoor School offers experienced naturalists in a lakefront setting where teachers bring 5th & 6th grade classes to study for four-day spring and fall programs and two-day winter ecology and snowshoeing. Students discover and explore the natural environment through hands-on activities in small groups. They build confidence and teamwork skills and develop more respect and appreciation for themselves, for each other, and for the environment. Nevada's rich natural and human history comes alive, and the curriculum based program also encompasses math, writing, physical, and creative activities. Camp Galilee is lakefront property with its own beach, and we also take day trips nearby, one to Zephyr Cove to go out on the lake on a research boat. |

Experiencing the magic between the children and the land inspired our mission to focus on youth development through environmental education with the hope of raising future generations of land stewards within our community. Acorn Soupe's free environmental education programs are offered to K-12 children and teachers along with stewardship projects on public and private lands. In its third year, the John Muir Mountain Day Camp, now a program of the John Muir Association, is an outgrowth of the John Muir Festival Center whose aim is to promote and foster Martinez as a world class destination for Arts, Culture and Education. It began as an educational outreach of the Willows Theatre John Muir Mountain Days musical. The day camp is operated on the grounds of the John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez, California. The Day Camp's goal specifically is to enlighten students to the teachings and legacy of John Muir as well as provide opportunities for expression, creativity and interaction in a safe environment which fosters growth and appreciation for nature and conservation. |

The Center for Land Based Learning, Winters; Dan Leroy; Expiration 9/14/05. The FARMS Leadership Program was started in 1994 by Winters walnut farmer Craig McNamara. Five high schools from Yolo, Solano, Sacramento, and Marin counties were selected to participate in the first FARMS program with a total of thirty students and six teachers involved in the project. Since 1994, eight more FARMS Leadership Program sites have been initiated around California; Orange and Sonoma in 1998, Riverside in 1999, Ventura and North State in 2000, and San Luis Obispo, San Diego, and Contra Costa in 2001. Also in 2001, the SLEWS (Student and Landowner Education and Watershed Stewardship) Program was formed in partnership with Audubon California. In 2004, we underwent a name change to better encompass all that we have created and continue to create - the Center for Land-Based Learning. The Center continues to add new FARMS Leadership Program sites around California and develop new partnerships with high schools in the Sacramento Valley, Northstate, and now the Stockton area to participate in the SLEWS Program. Our Farm and Nature Center provides us with the opportunity to host a variety of educational field days for students in the areas of sustainable agriculture, natural resource conservation, and ecological restoration. |

the Outdoors (ITO) - Orange County Department of Education (membership

programs since 1974. ITO includes Traveling
Scientist school programs, which provide a hands-on oportunity
