We are looking for fall part time naturalists! Our ideal candidate meets the
criteria below and is interested in helping to build a family-like, team atmosphere
to work toward connecting our young people to the land.
Naturalist conducts
restoration projects and activities based upon the organization’s
curriculum and participating schools goals in conjunction with Lead Teacher.
Sites include California State Parks, and various private and public lands,
primarily in Napa and Sonoma Counties. Naturalist reports to the Lead Naturalist
and Executive
Director. Naturalists should have a passion for teaching children in the outdoors
and a commitment to creating a learning atmosphere that is fun, safe, educational,
and inclusive of all learning styles.
Specific Duties to Include:
Teach and interpret Acorn Soupe field and classroom K-12 curriculum
at Lead Teacher’s
direction
Maintain supplies and materials, including inventory and repair
of tools
Transport and hauling of tools and supplies to sites
Ongoing development
of program, activities, and new projects
Regular meetings with lead naturalist
Reliable transportation to schools
and restoration sites
Maintain safe atmosphere for children and adults at
all times and report any hazards to Lead Teacher immediately
Location: Primarily in Napa County
with some Sonoma County sites. Schedule: Programs run approximately 7 hours per day and are subject to weather
and teacher cancellations.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in education, biology, geography, or
related
field or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years experience conducting outdoor environmental
education programs
Familiarity of the natural and cultural history of the
North Bay Area
Proven ability to conduct effective programs with K-12 students
Excellent
writing and communication skills, with the ability to give effective presentations
to diverse audiences, and willingness to use
email daily
Proven organizational skills
Ability to work independently and creatively
Ability to perform physical
work in the outdoors and under challenging weather conditions or uneven terrain,
including ability to lift
40 pounds
Current first aid (min. 16 hour course), CPR certification (adult, child,
infant)
Ability to multitask by focusing on activities in different
areas at the same time
Ability to work as part of a team in planning and
accomplishing projects, yet able to work independently
California driver’s
license, auto insurance, and your own car to
travel to field events
Ability to establish positive and professional rapport
with students, teachers, parents, and staff
Flexibility and sense of humor
