Big Rock Creek Camp
Big Rock Creek Camp

Outdoor Education Director

Program Description: Big Rock Creek Camp is a small, family owned and operated camp. Over the past 25 years we have built a strong summer camping program as well as a respectable OED program. Approximately 50 public/private schools, churches, youth groups, military units and corporations enroll in our programming each year. We would like to increase that number, but more importantly, we want to ensure that the groups that have been visiting us over the years receive a top quality, effective, safe, enjoyable, caring, and improved program.

We would like the new Director to start late February or early March, 2006. Housing is available prior to this date as is some part-time work, training, and development of new programming.

Respond by e-mail with resume & cover letter, and you may call us, and you may arrange for a visit to see your new home. Check us out on the web: www.bigrockcreekcamp.com

We encourage wife/husband teams to apply and could probably find a good deal of work for each.

Job Description: The Director will serve as the primary instructor for our Outdoor Science classes, as well as the lead facilitator for our Adventure Programming. The Director shall also be the point person for the improvement of the existing program and the development of future programming and related facilities.

The hard work part: Lots of hours during the busy seasons (April-June, October-November), As the OED season slows, the summer camping season begins. Work will shift to general camp duties including: hosting, cooking, cleaning, feeding the animals, life-guarding (get your certification, a big plus), and everything else that makes the camp run. Development, improvement and maintenance of the OED program and facilities will also take place this time of the year as well as year round. November-February will allow for generous time off and rest, or your own adventure.

Job Type: YearRound
Hours: Full time
Status: Permanent
Program Type: Residential

Qualifications: A minimum of 4 years experience in the field. The ability to "hit the ground running." With minimal training, the new Director shall be able to safely and effectively facilitate our high & low ropes challenge courses, team building activities and our many Outdoor Science/Experiential classes including: Wilderness Survival, Plant Study, Geology, Earth Science, Pioneer Skills, Native American Skills, Tracking, Rappelling, Orienteering, Star Study and more.

We require that the new Director have a love of the outdoors, a love of teaching, a love of children and a love of "children at heart." Having said that...the Director shall have almost limitless energy. The ability to lead camp fire programs is a must. The ability to play an instrument, tell good stories and sing, a plus. Please bring your expertise. We can modify or develop new classes to exploit your specialties.

We desire the new Director to lead and to host with integrity, honesty, understanding, humor and spirit.
