Naturalist

Description: Experienced naturalist needed to teach children at Lake Tahoe fall, winter, and/or spring seasons September 16-24 & October 12-15, 2004, six two-day sessions in January and February, and seven weeks April 25 though June 10, 2005. (Only hiring for the spring session as of January 2005)

Responsible for teaching local ecology and activities to develop a sense of community and connection to the natural world. Enjoy panoramic view of Tahoe from three-story staff home. Two classes of fifth and sixth graders will stay Tuesday through Friday, will be divided into study groups of 12-15, and will learn Tahoe ecology each Thursday aboard a 45' Tahoe research vessel. Lessons are correlated to state standards and include astronomy, geology, forest, water, and wildlife ecology, campfire programs, and community-building challenges.

Qualifications: Residential outdoor school experience, strong communication and interpersonal skills, natural history background, some college, first aid, CPR, background check. Campfire skills (song leading, guitar, story telling) desireable. Enthusiasm!

Salary: $8-$10/hour
Housing: program (but weekend housing can probably be arranged)
