Program Description:
VACANCY INFORMATION: There are currently 1 Full-Time and 3 Part-Time positions available and may be in any of three specialty areas: Education or Volunteer programs, Restoration and Resource Management, or Aquatic Stewardship programs.
Job Description:
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Under general supervision,
plans, organizes, develops, and supervises environmental education and activity
programs; creates and implements environmental education programs for Nature
Center and environmental sites; creates and coordinates volunteer programs,
summer programs and special events; promotes interest in the study and appreciation
of nature and conservation; recruits, trains, schedules, and monitors the activities
of volunteers and staff assigned to environmental education programs, volunteer
programs or Nature Center activities; maintains records and prepares activity
reports; develops program budgets and monitors expenditures; researches grant
availability and develops funding proposals; may supervise and monitor grants
and revenue generating activities, contract classes, and retail operations;
may develop and/or coordinate volunteer environmental or aquatic stewardship
programs; may serve as a liaison in the implementation of the Nature Center
Master Plan; may plan and oversee plant restoration work at the Nature Center
and other designated environmental sites; may provide direction and monitor
resource management of the Nature Center and other designated sites; performs
other related duties as required.

Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE: Graduation with a four-year degree in the Natural Sciences, Environmental Education or a related field with specific coursework in botany, biology, resource management, zoology, wildlife management, forestry, conservation or education (proof required)*; AND One year of experience in the development and implementation of environmental education programs, resource management programs, stewardship or volunteer management program, or in facility operation and/or program development at a nature center, nature museum, park, forest or wildlife area. Experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position may be substituted for up to two years of the required education.
*Applications will not be processed until all required proofs are received.
Any required proofs, such as transcripts, certificates, or diplomas must be
received in the Civil Service Department by August 9, 2006.
Ability to supervise staff and volunteers, maintain program activities and
records, direct interpretive educational programs, develop and monitor operating
budgets, and manage natural and wildlife resources.
Overtime, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required.
Proof of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required at time
of appointment. (A current DMV driving record must be submitted to the hiring
department at time of selection interview.)
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual language ability (English/Spanish or Southeast
Asian); plant restoration experience and/or certification.
