We are seeking a skilled Naturalist who has the desire and ability to oversee and develop hands-on science activities in and around the Organic Garden at the Outdoor School program, and when necessary, to jump on to the trail to lead science based activities to primarily 5th and 6th grade students. 10 Month position from February through November (December and January off).
THE POSITION: The Ranch Naturalist assists outdoor education staff in the preparation of materials for classroom and outdoor training and instruction in the Natural Sciences for 5th and 6th grade students. Ranch Naturalists lead hikes in various habitats, including bay-oak woodlands, pond, creek, tide pools, sand dunes and the ranch garden. They also conduct the training program for high school age students who become cabin leaders. In addition, conduct presentations for elementary school students to prepare them for attendance at the Outdoor Education Program. There is some participation in evening activities and additional responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Outdoor Education Leader.
REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from high school or equivalent and study and/or work in the natural sciences equivalent to one year of college level work; familiarity with outdoor interpretative techniques and curriculum; thorough understanding of Natural History, Ecology, Natural Resources Conservation, Agricultural Sciences, and Outdoor Recreation; ability to work cooperatively with school personnel and students; speak and write effectively.
