Summer Camp Counselor


Program Description: Camp Soulajule (Soo-la-whoo-lay) at Walker Creek Ranch is a 5-day residential arts and ecology summer program. Our mission is to educate children about the natural world through music, theater and nature crafts. The camp will also include traditional camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, fishing, archery, pottery, night hikes, sports and games, campfires, storytelling, and skits. Camp Soulajule provides just the right balance of fun and learning.

The Camp Counselor position is a commitment to work 4 weeks. (One week of training followed by three weeks of program.) The counselor staff is off-duty on weekends and housing is not provided for Counselors on weekends between camp sessions. Listed below is the schedule for Camp Soulajule 2007:

Job Description: Supervise and sleep in a cabin with a group of 8-12 campers, ages 8-12 at a residential arts and ecology camp. Assist naturalists with lessons, recreational activities, evening programs and beach field trips. Provide guidance and leadership to insure safety and overall well being of campers. Assist with meal supervision, set-ups and clean-ups.

Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age and have graduated from High School by June of 2007. Should have experience working with children and enjoy being outside. Current CPR and first aid certification or willingness to obtain before internship begins. Other desired qualifications: recreational leadership skills, music, theatrical and/or artistic abilities.

Salary: $60/day; $7.50/hr
