Community Recycling Crew Supervisor

Program Description: The Marin Conservation Corps (MCC) is a local non-profit job training, education and development program serving youth and adults ages 11-30. MCC assists young adults in the development of basic job competencies and qualifying work experience for employment in a wide variety of fields. Participants work on crews implementing projects in natural resource conservation, ecological restoration, recycling, service learning projects with children, and public land beautification in Marin County. MCC helps corpsmembers to enhance their academic and vocational abilities and assists them in formulating and progressing toward their long-term employment and educational goals.

The Community Recycling Crew (CRC) assists local land management agencies, including national, state, county and city parks, in achieving waste reduction goals by collecting over a quarter million tons of recycling each year from more than 300 collection points. The CRC Supervisor provides supervision to 8-14 corpsmembers implementing a wide-range of recycling services for the community. The CRC supervisor is responsible for coordination of special event services, a bin construction program, business waste consulting projects, and maintenance of the Biodiesel truck fleet. Under the direction of the Recycling Programs Manager, the CRC Supervisor provides continual guidance and mentorship to corpsmembers in the areas of personal and academic development, professionalism, environmental ethics, recycling and waste management issues, and interacting with the public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
Supervision:

• Provide daily supervision of 8-14 corpsmembers including enforcing program policies, organizing work schedules for the daily CRC projects, evaluating corpsmembers' performance, and assisting corpsmembers with personal and professional development goals.
• Provide coverage for absent corpsmembers on projects when needed.
• Develop and administer a CRC corpsmember project specific training program and track corpsmember progress.
• Ensure that corpsmembers follow all safety procedures.

Program Development:

• Establish and maintain contacts with new and existing program clients and community members.
• Solicit, plan and prepare for special events. Develop outreach and display materials and supervise corpsmembers during special events.
• Implement waste consulting projects for new and existing clients and train corpsmembers to administer waste consulting projects.
• Collaborate with other staff to develop project goals and objectives and program-specific trainings.
• Assist program staff with developing new projects for the CRC crew.

Administration:

• Oversee tracking systems for recycling collections, grant objectives and corpsmember hours. Train corpsmembers in basic computer programs, including GIS mapping, databases and spreadsheets.
• Compile data and submit monthly status reports.
• Represent program and organization at a variety of meetings and public forums.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to supervise and motivate young adults from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds, enrolled in a job-training program.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective conflict resolution skills.
• Experience safely operating shop tools and possess basic carpentry skills.
• Strong organizational skills, ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize tasks.
• Experience using MS Office software
• First Aid/CPR certification within 2 months of hire.
• California driver's license, clean DMV record (1 point or less) and ability to pass physical for Class B driver's license within 2 months of hire.
• Willingness to work occasional flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• College level coursework in humanities and sciences especially focused on environmental issues.
• Demonstrated history of increased responsibilities in the areas of supervision and program implementation.
• Understanding of recycling, waste management and conservation, and experience articulating these issues to a diverse audience.
• Experience supervising youth from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds to work together as a team.
• Experience serving and volunteering in the community. Must possess a strong service ethic and be able to instill this ethic into team members.
