Program Description: The Marin Conservation Corps (MCC) is a local non-profit job training, education and development program serving youth and adults ages 11-30. MCC assists young adults in the development of basic job competencies and qualifying work experience for employment in a wide variety of fields. Participants work on crews implementing projects in natural resource conservation, ecological restoration, recycling, service learning projects with children, and public land beautification in Marin County. MCC helps corpsmembers to enhance their academic and vocational abilities and assists them in formulating and progressing toward their long-term employment and educational goals.

The For Earth's Sake (FES) supervisor is responsible for coordination of MCC's mobile resource center that delivers environmental education resources and creative reuse art materials to schools and youth organizations throughout Marin County. The FES Supervisor provides daily supervision of 6 corpsmembers implementing a wide-range of recycling and environmental education projects in the community. Corpsmembers on the FES crew present recycling education through creative reuse art presentations in elementary school classrooms as well as during lunchtime activities. Materials for the resource center and art projects are solicited from local businesses through an extensive outreach program. Under the direction of the Recycling Programs Manager, the FES Supervisor will provide continual guidance and mentorship to corpsmembers in the areas of personal and academic development, professionalism, environmental ethics, recycling and waste management issues, and interacting with the public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
Supervision:

• Provide daily supervision of 6 corpsmembers including enforcing program policies, organize work schedules for the daily FES projects, evaluate corpsmembers' performance, and assist corpsmembers with personal and professional development goals.
• Provide coverage for absent corpsmembers on projects when needed.
• Develop and administer a FES corpsmember project specific training program and track corpsmember progress.
• Ensure that corpsmembers follow all safety procedures.

Program Development:

• Solicit school participation and plan FES mobile resource van deliveries and classroom presentations schedule.
• Establish and maintain contacts with new and existing program clients and community members.
• Oversee curriculum development and creative reuse art projects for classroom presentations.
• Implement a business waste-consulting project; identifying materials for the creative reuse art program and train corpsmembers to outreach to the businesses.
• Work with other program staff to develop project goals, objectives and program-specific trainings.

Administration:

• Oversee tracking systems for program accomplishments, grant objectives and corpsmember hours.
• Compile data and submit monthly status reports.
• Represent program and organization at a variety of meetings and public forums.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to supervise and motivate young adults from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds, enrolled in a job-training program.
• Background in teaching and environmental education curriculum development and implementation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills, ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize tasks.
• Effective conflict resolution skills.
• Experience using MS Office software
• First Aid/CPR certification within 2 months of hire.
• California driver's license, clean DMV record (1 point or less) and ability to pass physical for Class B driver's license within 2 months of hire.
• Willingness to work occasional flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• College level coursework in humanities, sciences or education, especially focused on environmental issues.
• Demonstrated history of increased responsibilities in the areas of supervision and program implementation.
• Understanding of recycling, waste management and conservation, and experience articulating these issues to a diverse audience.
• Experience supervising youth from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds to work together as a team.
• Experience serving and volunteering in the community. Must possess a strong service ethic and be able to instill this ethic into team members.
