PROGRAM BACKGROUND
The Marin Conservation Corps (MCC) is a non-profit organization providing job training and education to young adults ages 18-30. The mission of the AmeriCorps Environmental Restoration Program (ER Program) is to help youth and adults develop an ethic of environmental stewardship and appreciation for Marin’s local parks and public lands through environmental education in schools and service-learning projects that restore habitat, while providing meaningful training opportunities to AmeriCorps members. A continuing goal of the Environmental Restoration Program will be to assist community partners in developing strategies for successfully engaging the interest and participation of the Bay Area’s diverse, multi-cultural community in caring for our various sensitive urban and open space ecosystems.
In this one-year program, members of the AmeriCorps ER Program will be partnered with a mentor from a local land management agency, local environmental non-profit organization or local educational facilities to address critical environmental and educational needs and to inspire volunteers to engage in environmental restoration. The program is designed to offer AmeriCorps members an introduction to field research, ecological monitoring, sustainability, recycling and waste reduction, environmental education, civic engagement and public outreach. Integral to the program is member development and training, which is conducted by staff from the partnering agencies and local experts to give the AmeriCorps members a well-rounded educational experience.
The AmeriCorps ER Program member positions vary in responsibilities, qualifications, daily routine, and job title. Some of the possible positions within the 20 member AmeriCorps program are Environmental Educator, Ecological Monitoring Specialist, Exotic Plant Control Specialist, Wildlife Monitoring Specialist, Student Green Team Coordinator, Community Outreach Specialist and Habitat Restoration Specialist and demonstrate the range of projects with which corpsmembers will be involved.
Restoration and Ecosystem Management (REM) Crew
12 members will be assigned to the REM Crew within the ER Program. These members
will be paired with the large-scale public land managers of Marin.

National Seashore or Marin Municipal Water District. Members will be assisting
resource managers with completing restoration projects, monitoring ecosystem
factors, and with recruiting volunteers to restore Marin’s open spaces.
