MARIN CONSERVATION CORPS
AMERICORPS ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION PROGRAM

Description :

MCC will recruit and train 20 members to serve on either the Restoration and Ecosystem Management (REM) Crew, or the Youth in Environmental Service (YES) Crew. Members will be placed at sites ranging from agencies with wide responsibilities for land management such as the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, to grassroots youth and environmental groups such as Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed (STRAW), and to middle and high schools in underserved areas of Marin. All members will have roles aimed at generating volunteers for their placement sites. In the summer, eight members will implement Project ReGeneration, a summer environmental service-learning program of MCC. All members work together to meet the goals of the program. YES and REM members will create a partnership between local schools and adjacent public lands to help meet our goal of bringing more youth out to serve their community through environmental service projects.

Restoration and Management (REM) Crew

Twelve members will be assigned to the REM Crew within the AmeriCorps ER Program. REM Crew members will be paired with the large-scale public land managers of Marin. Members will be placed in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Point Reyes National Seashore, or Marin Municipal Water District. Members will assist resource managers with restoration projects, monitoring ecosystem factors, and with recruiting volunteers to restore Marin's open spaces.

Youth in Environmental Service (YES) Crew

Eight members will be assigned to the YES Crew within the AmeriCorps ER Program. YES Crew members will be paired with small-scale local environmental non-profit organizations and schools in Marin. In the junior high and high schools, members will deliver environmental service-learning curriculum, coordinate and host eco-projects with classrooms, organize student environmental service clubs, and create a youth volunteer program. Members will also assist local grassroots groups, and smaller land management agencies that restore habitats and currently involve youth volunteers.
