AmeriCorps Restoration and Ecosystem Management Crew Supervisor

Program Description: The Marin Conservation Corps (MCC) is a local non-profit job training, education and development program serving youth and adults ages 11-30. MCC assists young adults in the development of basic job competencies and qualifying work experience for employment in a wide variety of fields. Participants work on crews implementing projects in natural resource conservation, ecological restoration, recycling, service learning projects with children, and public land beautification in Marin County. MCC helps corpsmembers to enhance their academic and vocational abilities and assists them in formulating and progressing toward their long-term employment and educational goals.

The AmeriCorps Restoration and Ecosystem Management (REM) Crew Supervisor provides leadership to a team of 12 AmeriCorps members charged with the implementation of a wide-range of habitat restoration, volunteer outreach and recycling projects. These projects primarily take place in lands managed by the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Point Reyes National Seashore and the Marin Municipal Water District under the direction of agency natural resources professionals. Under the direction of the AmeriCorps Environmental Restoration Program Coordinator, the AmeriCorps REM Crew Supervisor coordinates with natural resource staff from these agencies to ensure that AmeriCorps members placed in these agencies participate in a high-quality service and training program. As a one-year professional development and environmental leadership program for young adults aged 18-30, MCC's AmeriCorps REM Crew Supervisor is charged with implementing a multi-faceted and dynamic program for the AmeriCorps members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervision:

• Provide daily supervision of 12 AmeriCorps members including enforcing program rules, and evaluating corpsmembers' performance. Effectively facilitating personal and professional development among the corpsmembers is a key component of supervision for this program.
• Ensure that members and site mentors establish effective mechanisms for communicating monthly service plans, accomplishment tracking, and recording service hours.
• Lead occasional "project days," supervising members and community volunteers in habitat restoration and ecological monitoring projects

Program Development:

• Serve as liaison between MCC/AmeriCorps and site supervisors (or "mentors") from the public land management agencies.
• Collaborate with staff from agency partners to assess and evaluate program milestones and outcomes and to review member performance.
• Coordinate several one-day community service events per year, such as Make a Difference Day, MLK Jr. Day of Service and National Youth Service Day.

Administration:

• Develop and maintain tracking systems for program evaluations, objectives completed and member hours.
• Compile data and submit quarterly AmeriCorps reports on crew performance measures, for inclusion into the AmeriCorps Progress Reports (APR).

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate staff to work collaboratively, including ability to facilitate crew meetings and deliver presentations to the crew.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Ability to coordinate and implement community projects and to collaborate with a broad base of community partners.
• Strong organizational skills and knowledge of MS Office software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Broad field experience in the sciences, habitat restoration or ecological monitoring.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
• Familiarity with AmeriCorps programs or similar service-based projects.
• Demonstrated community service or volunteer activities.
• California driver's license, clean DMV record (1 point or less) and ability to pass physical for Class B driver's license within 2 months of hire.
• Earn certification in First Aid and CPR within the first 2 months of employment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Education - Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Restoration Ecology or related field from an accredited college or university
• Experience - Progressively responsible experience in supervising or leading teams/individuals in professional settings. Experience in coordinating environmental and/or service projects as well as administering high quality programs. Current knowledge of California Ecology, conservation corps and non-profits are desirable.

This is a full time position that offers a competitive salary, dependent on experience. Benefits include full medical coverage and paid sick, vacation and holiday pay.
