Naturalist/Cabin Counselor

Program Description: Whiskeytown Environmental School is a residential outdoor science school operated in partnership by the Shasta County Office of Education and the National Park Service. It is located 8 miles west of Redding, CA in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area at the juncture of the Klamath Mountain range and the northern edge of the Sacramento Valley.

Job Description: Naturalist/Cabin Counselor is a two part position. Most weeks will be filled as a naturalist, responsible for teacher hands-on experiential outdoor education to groups (18-24 5th-6th grade students) while hiking in the great outdoors. The weekly program typically runs Monday morning through Friday afternoon, working 40 hours (including two evening programs). The second part of this position is fulfilling the role as a cabin counselor in the event that one is needed. This could be for one night or for an entire week, depending on the circumstances. As cabin counselor, working hours would be nights with days off. Full time seasonal work; spring semester January 21st - June 5th with potential summer camp employment; fall semester mid Sept - mid Nov.
