Naturalist/ Outdoor Health Assistant

Program Description: Whiskeytown Environmental School is a residential outdoor science school operated in partnership by the Shasta County Office of Education and the National Park Service. It is located 8 miles west of Redding, CA in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area at the juncture of the Klamath Mountain range and the northern edge of the Sacramento Valley.

Job Description: Naturalists teach groups of 5th/6th grade students standard-based hands-on outdoor science education while exploring the great outdoors. The weekly program runs from Monday morning to Friday afternoon, with naturalist/outdoor health assistants working 40 hours/week. In addition to these duties, the naturalist/outdoor health specialilst works in the health room two evenings per week and acts as an on-site emergency on-call staff member two nights/week. Health room duties include tending to ill students, maintaining paperworrk and reconrds, and communicating with parents and teachers regarding student health issues. Spring semester: January 21st 2008 - June 5th with potential summer camp opportunities. Fall semester: Roughly mid September - mid November.
