Our Philosophy:
Understanding of the natural world is best promoted through a series of "hands-on" encounters with nature. Students learn together while living together in a forest environment where direct experience and observation provide unique learning opportunities. Add to this, guidance by a trained outdoor education staff that can cultivate an understanding of studies in natural sciences as well as the community living experience, and you have a significant educational and life experience for your students.

Our Program is a balanced approach to building an outstanding outdoor education experience. A program based on building experiences while learning together, living together, working together, and having fun together.
Elements include:

Study trails use the natural setting of the forest community and the vitality it presents for "hands-on" learning
Cabin life with its shared responsibilities and camaraderie supervised by trained staff
Community experiences such as the dining room that provide opportunities to share community responsibilities and build teamwork
24 hour supervision by staff trained in life skills and teaching skills. A team of two cabin leaders (one boys group, one girls group) and a trail leader work with the trail group as they travel through the week’s activities.
Understanding oneself, relating to one another, and relating to the environment are built around "real-life" experiences and adventures.

Thousand Pines Outdoor School is hiring energetic people to teach 5th and 6th grade students natural sciences in the San Bernardino Mountains. The Cabin Leader position follows the school calendar of October through June, working in beautiful Crestline. The Outdoor School is a five-day residential camp in which students come to learn, live, and play together. Cabin Leaders are responsible for maintaining the health and safety of a group of 10 students during their camp experience. They are also responsible for helping with the overall program. Typical duties include: teaching social living skills, leading environmental games and group initiatives, assisting in songs and campfires, and more. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience with program development for youth organizations.

Qualifications:
A Cabin Leader must have a high school diploma and have experience working with children in areas such as recreation, camping, classroom or outdoor school experience, other related experience, or a combination of these. It is imperative to have a positive attitude and a willingness to support other staff and the program.

Salary: $78/day
Housing: provided full time; non-program housing is available on grounds for a nominal fee
Meals: provided full time
