Kids of all ages (that means adults too!):
Join me, Mike Kahn, as I bicycle my was across the United States this summer, exploring the wonders of nature and sharing them with you online at http://www.EVols.org.
This Coast to Coast Discovery Ride is a benefit and outreach project for the Environmental Volunteers in Palo Alto, CA. On June 10th, I will load my bicycle with solar panels, laptop computer, GPS, digital camera and camping gear, dip my tires in the Pacific Ocean and begin a 4,300-mile ride to Maine.
I will be answering questions and interacting online with students and educators in year-round classrooms, summer schools, science camps and outdoor schools nationwide. I invite any young person with a question about the environment or about my ride to email me at . As I visit wilderness areas and national parks, starting with Yosemite, I will upload photos and environmental information for web followers in the San Francisco Bay Area and all over the globe. I am also interested in connecting with environmental organizations along my route and will highlight them on the web.
It is the philosophy of the Environmental Volunteers that knowledge leads to understanding, and understanding leads to stewardship. The Coast to Coast Discovery Ride's goal is to help young people connect with nature and to plant the seeds of stewardship. Uploading to the internet and using solar panels to recharge my electronice equipment provides all of us with an example of how we can strive to become stewards of the earth in this technological age.
I look forward to sharing the Coast to Coast Discovery Ride with you. And, please, pass this invitation on to a friend!
Sincerely,
Mike Kahn
