The Comfort of Coffee
French Roast with heavy cream
or other beans
as comforting effect
like laws of gravity or nature
never failing.
Mug warm in my hand
as another hand.
I tried, in purer days,
to give up this ritual -
but as it happens,
life isn't pure.
We keep up good fronts
but underneath
we compost all earthy
like the underside of manicured lawns.
Give me small conforts.
Coffee -
a bit more costly than sunlight or song
First sip and a pause hangs in the air
