Wildwoods Foundation

The tragic shooting at Columbine High School in 1999 moved our founders to create a program that expanded the boundaries of traditional outdoor education to include activities that address human relations and social issues.  It is this blend of natural science and social science that sets Wildwoods apart.

Our programs use nature as a springboard to help young people recognize that the principles governing nature’s ecosystems: diversity, interdependence, and sustainability, are just as vital to the social fabric of our neighborhoods.  That’s why our motto is “Building Community by Exploring Nature.
