Join this FREE virtual workshop to celebrate the brand new Learning with the Land: A Nature Playbook!

We will look at the Spiral of Inquiry and four foundational nature routines – Circle, Nature Walk, Nature Journal, and Sit Spot- which offer a flexible framework for responsive, inquiry-based outdoor learning.

Rooted in inclusion and guided by respect, responsibility, and reciprocity, we will look at this new resource that bridges curriculum, well-being, and Land-based practice in ways that are both practical and transformative.

We will be joined by 6 incredible educators who will all provide insights and perspectives: Lauren MacLean, April Pikkarainen, Leona Prince, Heidi Wood, Linda Kaser, and Judy Halbert.

The Statewide Conference for Environmental & Outdoor Education is our signature event, bringing together several hundred environmental and outdoor professionals for a weekend of learning, community-building, and fun. The event features 40+ workshops, silent auction, evening entertainment, keynote speakers, an awards ceremony, and more. Click here for more information.

Full weekend registration without lodging includes all the activities listed above as well six meals (Dinner on Friday, Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner on Saturday, and Breakfast / Lunch on Sunday). We assume that you are either live locally or elect to secure your own lodging offsite (Springville has a few local options, with more possibilities in nearby Porterville).

If you elect to camp, you are responsible for bringing your own equipment; if you choose to stay in the shared dorms, you must bring your own linens. Semi-private cabins have all been filled.

Join Julie Nowak, an accessibility consultant, as they provide a foundation on what accessibility truly is and how to create inclusive learning experiences in nature. This workshop will explore Julie’s accessibility framework to guide educators on how to assess and create inclusive nature experiences, as well as how to support disabled and neurodivergent learners. Audience members are encouraged to come with all of their accessibility and inclusion questions! Julie’s favorite part of presenting is providing support during Q&A.

The Community-Based Partner (CBP) virtual Community of Practice brings program leaders and staff from environmental education organizations together to engage in collaborative learning and build capacity. Join colleagues from around the state to share resources, explore best practices, and build connections to strengthen our respective organizations and increase our collective impact.

This effort is a collaboration between AEOE and the California Environmental Literacy Initiative (CAELI).

Join this virtual inspiring and practical workshop to discuss how ‘Renewal’ can guide K–12 educators in bringing Indigenous voices and the philosophy, principles, and practices of Indigenous land-based education into their teaching and community.

Workshop attendees will learn how to respectfully renew their own relationships with land directly, engage students with the land – no matter where they are located and guide students in learning through observation, listening, and discussion.

Through critical engagement with diverse written and visual works created by Indigenous leaders, land defenders, scholars, and Knowledge Keepers, experienced educators Christine M’Lot and Katya Adamov Ferguson will guide readers in connecting with Indigenous perspectives on land and water.

Birds can be found in all learning environments, rural or urban. Join our panel of knowledgeable presenters who will share resources, both analogue and digital, for learning about birds in formal or informal education spaces. This workshop will also highlight the work of Joseph Pitawanakwat, Andrés Jiménez, and Junaid Khan to support the regathering and the education of Anishinaabe bird names and significant Indigenous bird knowledge. Included in this are their Anishinaabe Bird Names Nature Guide and Anishinaabe Winter Bird Names Nature Guide. While these resources are specific to Indigenous groups primarily located around the Great Lakes in Canada and the United States, there are valuable insights to be gleaned wherever you are joining from.
