    Job Description:

    Under direct supervision of Program Supervisor, naturalists lead environmental education and lifestyle functions of the outdoor school; direct students in following the instructional program, maintain a safe and secure facility, and perform required clerical functions.  

    Job Duties:

    Develop, teach and coordinate with other Naturalists a trail program, conduct science hikes for student groups of 18-24; develop and operate non-trail activities; help develop resource material in subject areas related to overall program goals; maintain simple records; develop appropriate student behavior through positive reinforcement strategies and techniques; develop a variety of instructional materials and learning aids, including displays and exhibits; perform routine first aid and request assistance for non-routine injury and illness; maintain a clean, safe and secure facility; serve as liaison with participating school district personnel; drive a county owned vehicle in performance of duties;

    Salary:

    $20.60 - 24.76 Per Hour.  Maximum entry level for external candidates is $22.55 per hour. Salary step placement for promotional candidates is based upon Rules of the Personnel Commission.

    Length of Work Year:

    40 hrs/ week Mon-Fri.  The work calendar for this position flexes based on the needs of the program and typically runs between August and June.

    Benefits:

    Holiday, sick leave and vacation benefits provided. Medical, dental, vision, and counseling plans provided for employee and family when the regular work calendar has a minimum of 180 work days. Prepaid life insurance policy provided for the employee. Employees of this office are not covered by Social Security, but do have mandatory retirement coverage with California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).
