Hidden Villa Farm and Wilderness preserve is seeking an energetic, responsible team player for the position of Youth Development Teacher. Hidden Villa is a non-profit, public benefit corporation with a 60-year history, focusing on environmental education. We use our organic farm, wilderness, and community to teach and provide opportunities to learn about the environment and social justice. Hidden Villa stretches over 1600 acres of open space in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about 40 miles south of San Francisco.

General Responsibilities
During the school year, the Youth Development (YD) Teacher/Day Camp Supervisor position is responsible for daily teaching and safety of Youth Development programs to middle school and high school age youth. During the summer, this position is responsible for the day to day operation of the Day Camp program. This positon is an hourly position and will require occasional weekend and evening work.
Specific Responsibilities and Duties:
School Year
1. Teaching middle school and high school age youth YD program curriculum which includes topics on Cesar Chavez, Sustainable Agricultural, Team Building & Ropes Course and Wilderness appreciation.
2. Collaborate with YD Manager and Intern for program prep and to continually refine programs
3. Support volunteers in program prep and mastery of curriculum
4. Assist with organization, planning and logistics pre and post program
Summer
5. Supervise day camp program and seasonal staff ensuring execution of a high quality program that uses Hidden Villa’s resources.
6. Coordinate with Camp Director to prepare for and implement summer staff training.
7. Develop summer camp curriculum that is exciting and addressed HVSC curriculum pillars.
8. Provide excellent customer service to clients
General
9. Know and support leadership in emergency procedures
10. Manage program and teaching supplies
11. Personal development of teaching and management skills and background knowledge of subject areas
12. Project work and other duties as assigned
Preferred Skills:
1. Ability to exercise judgment in a position of responsibility and to work without direct supervision
2. 2 years teaching experience with teens in experiential educational field, summer camp experience
3. Ability to be flexible and assume responsibility for group instruction with minimal preparation
4. Valid California driver’s license, free of any major infractions
5. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and comfortable entering pens with farm animals
6. Spanish speaking not required but strongly preferred
7. Ropes Course or Belay Experience
8. CPR & First aid certified or willing to obtain
9. Good communication and interpersonal skills with youth and adults
10. Excellent organizational skills
11. Ability to conduct self in a professional manner consistent with Hidden Villa values
12. Strong risk management skills
Terms of Employment:
From September to mid-May, this is a part time non-exempt position working an average of 32 hours/week. Mid-May through August this is a full time non-exempt position. Pay rate $20 per hour. After initial training period, normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Work days will vary depending on scheduled programs. Typical work days are Monday through Friday with the occasional evening and weekend program.

After initial training period, normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Work days will vary depending on scheduled programs. Typical work days are Monday through Friday with the occasional evening and weekend program.
