Program Description: Marin County Outdoor School has been in operation for 19 years at the Walker Creek Ranch site and serves 6,000, 5th and 6th graders, each year. The program offers 4 and 5-day programs and features hands-on science curriculum in a variety of settings including organic garden, pond, creek, grassland and bay woodlands.
Job Description: Assists outdoor education staff in the preparation of materials for classroom and outdoor instruction in the Natural Sciences for 5th and 6th grade students. Naturalists lead hikes in various habitats, including bay-oak woodlands, pond, creek, tide pools, sand dunes, and salt marsh and leads activities in the ranch garden and farm animal husbandry program. Interacts with the students in their outdoor school activities, encourages the learning process, observes the progress and shares their observations with the program leader. Assists in health and safety activities and the operation of the kitchen and dining hall, supervising set-ups and clean-ups. Assists in the organization and execution of recreational and educational evening programs.
Qualifications: Graduation from high school or equivalent and study work in the natural sciences equivalent to one year of college level work; familiarity with outdoor interpretative techniques and curriculum; thorough understanding of Natural History, Ecology, Natural Resources Conservation, Agricultural Sciences, and Outdoor Recreation; ability to work cooperatively with school personnel and students; speak and write effectively.
Salary: $14.57/hour
