Education Director
Description : The Education Director works under the direction of MCC's Executive Director to provide leadership and management oversight to all of MCC's Education Programs. S/he is responsible for the design, implementation and coordination of all aspects of the Marin Conservation Corps'; Education Programs including charter school high school diploma and ESL programs, college level courses, internships and the Corps-to-Career program. Additionally, this position reports to the Muir Charter School Executive Director for implementation of charter school requirements and activities. The Education Director hires and supervises teachers and other staff members for the Education Department. Hiring for JMCS teachers is done in concert with JMCS Executive Director and Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Human Resources Department.
Project Based Learning (PBL) concepts are the cornerstone of MCC's Education Programs and the Education Director will demonstrate knowledge of PBL principles and commitment to integrate these principles throughout MCC's educational programs. The Education Director is responsible for enrolling corpsmembers in appropriate educational programs to meet their individual education needs and career goals. Corpsmembers'; educational backgrounds range from no high school diploma and/or limited English skills to college graduates.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Charter School: The Education Director is the main liaison between the Muir Charter School Executive Director and the MCC students and teachers, and actively engages in understanding, implementing and communicating the charter's educational program to students and personnel at the MCC site. The Education Director ensures that students get the needed instruction to develop the educational competencies for completion of their high school diploma in accordance with the current California State standards and framework. S/he chooses, develops and evaluates educational classes and programs for successful student learning.
§ English-as-a-Second-Language: The Education Director develops educational programs for all English Language Learner (ELL) corpsmembers. For ELL students who are also enrolled in the charter school, English acquisition is incorporated into all subjects. The Education Director ensures that ELL corpsmembers are provided with educational programs designed to enable them to progress toward high school graduation and/or their career and educational goals.
§ Post High School Curriculum: Formal education is a required part of every corpsmember's experience at Marin Conservation Corps. The Education Director is responsible for making sure that all corpsmembers have an educational program that is appropriate for their educational level and their career goals. Some of these programs are provided by MCC; in some cases, other educational institutions provide the best program for certain corpsmembers. The Education Director builds relationships with other education providers to ensure the best program for MCC's corpsmembers.
§ Corps-to-Career: The Education Director oversees MCC's Corps-to-Career program, which provides corpsmembers with career and educational counseling while they are enrolled at MCC and for two years after they leave MCC. All corpsmembers develop an individual education and career plan to ensure career achievement after they leave MCC. The Education Director is responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with community service providers including employment, development and human services.
Qualifications : Must posses a valid California K-12 teaching credential including ELD authorization, or have an application in process with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), or meet the requirements as listed by the CTC including a baccalaureate degree or higher (education, environmental science/studies, community studies, other social science field) from an accredited college/university, passage of CBEST, subject matter competence (exam or appropriate units) and be prepared to obtain a valid California teaching credential.
Must have a CA driver's license with a clean DMV record, and the ability to pass a drug screen, TB test and fingerprint clearance.
Have at least 5 years teaching and/or administrative experience in an educational environment, and a proven ability to devise and implement innovative educational programs.
Must have a strong background in curriculum development and implementation and be familiar with current trends and reliable methods for teaching basic skills and ESL.
Have skills and successful experience working with young adults from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds.
Have experience supervising staff.
