When in your life has your work asked you to have an oatmeal fight, transform into a dragon, search your soul and encourage soul searching for others? Working at Augusta is an experience unlike any other. Our days are beautiful, demanding, inspiring, educational, hilarious, frustrating, silly, surprising, intimate, active and most importantly, full of opportunity. Our staff have ample opportunities to develop themselves personally and professionally. In our 3.5 week staff training and throughout the summer, staff can learn and practice progressive models of child development and counseling, communication techniques like clean communication and Nonviolent Communication, diverse leadership styles as well as how to live in a tight-knit community. Come with an open-mind, a trusting-heart and plenty of ambition, and leave with a heart on fire!

Are you up for the challenge? :)

We are a residential summer camp that offers six sessions (3 week-long and 3 two week-long) playing in the sun with 90 campers (ages 8-16) each session. We are committed to fostering the innocence and imagination of childhood, and we aim to give campers time away from the distractions of modern life. From sleeping in open air cabins without electricity to replacing television and radio with camp songs and campfire skits, we give campers the opportunity to reconnect with the beauty and simplicity of nature.

We are still looking for counselors and leadership staff for the summer of 2021! See our open positions

Augusta stands proudly and equally on two pillars: play and personal growth. Play is the heart of our summer camp experience. From candle-making to zipline canopy tours and horseback archery to dinner dressed as pirates, we offer our campers the opportunity to rediscover the innocence and wonder of childhood away from the distractions of modern life. Where camper’s dreams meet counselor’s know-how, Augusta breathes magic into every day. And just as important as the spirit of play, personal growth underpins every aspect of life at camp. Engaging deeply with our intentional community, both campers and staff have the opportunity to develop self-awareness, confidence, creativity, healthy ways of communicating and so much more!

    Job Requirements

    • Are overjoyed to work closely with children for a summer and gain energy from time spent with kids

    • Have a foundation of emotional depth and intelligence and seek to grow and improve professionally and personally in life

    • Love to imagine wild possibility, creative engagement with the world, and the ways to have the most fun... and are driven and organized enough to make some of it happen!

    • Are adventurers of the mind, heart, and world as a whole. Curiosity and a zeal for constant learning and exploration - externally and internally

    • Possess the flexibility, open-mindedness, honesty, responsibility, and heartfelt goodwill for living and working in a tight-knit community of staff

    • Think deeply, write articulately, and speak with compassion by nature

    • Thrive on operating with a growth mindset (rather than a fixed mindset)

    • Must be at least 19 years old by June 2021 (3 years older than our oldest campers)

    • Must be available for our full summer (May 18 - Aug 14)

    • Prior, meaningful work with children (our campers are between 8-16)

    • Some life experience is very helpful (work, independent travel, anything that demonstrates your resourcefulness and ability to get things done on your own)

    • We prefer folks who are able to return for at least a second summer

    • Ability and willingness to work at a sustained, high-energy pace for extended time (seriously, how's your energy level?)

    Dates & Benefits

Housing and meals are provided. Live in a cabin, yurt or treehouse! Meals are organic, locally-sourced and made fresh every day.

Staff must be available for our main season from May 18 - August 14, which means being at camp and ready by May 17th. Staff training is 3.5 weeks long followed by 9 weeks of main season camp. Opportunities are available to work pre and post season assisting with family camps and school groups before staff training (start of May) and after the summer (August and September).

The depth of training and ongoing professional support you will receive as a Camp Augusta staff member (in the realms of education, personal development and communication, and activity skills) can offer far-reaching benefits for many other parts of your life.

    How to Apply

We are a small staff that quickly becomes like family. Being such a close community, we are looking to know our potential staff as more than just a list of skills and certificates.
