    Outdoor Education Director

If you have a deep and active interest in nature, passion for teaching kids, positive attitude, strong work ethic, creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor… Camp Ocean Pines is for you! A jewel in Cambria on California’s Central Coast, our camp sits on thirteen acres of Monterey Pine forest above the Pacific Ocean. A work environment like no other!

Our mission is to foster enjoyment and appreciation of the natural world among all people through creative activities in a residential camp setting. Camp Ocean Pines programs encourage people to Connect, Explore, and Grow. We provide programs year-round, including summer camp, adult workshops, outdoor education for schools, and retreat space for other organizations. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

The Outdoor Education Director (OED) is responsible for development, delivery, and management of high-quality nature programs at Camp Ocean Pines. The OED directs two existing programs--our residential outdoor education program for schools, and the onsite UC California Naturalist program--and is responsible to develop more programs. The position has responsibilities in staff hiring and supervision, fiscal management and budgeting, marketing, customer/ guest relations (primarily with schools), program development, program management, animal care, and other areas. The Outdoor Education Director has direct program responsibility from late August to early June, and supports other programs in June to August.

The Outdoor Education Director reports to the Senior Program Director, who in turn reports to the Executive Director. As a member of the management team, the OED shares in the oversight and support of all of Camp operations and programs. The voice, expertise, and shared leadership of the management team--including the Outdoor Education Director--is a necessary component of our mission success.

This position requires at least 2 years of experience in youth development, outdoor education, classroom teaching, and/or engaging low-income and students of color, at least one of those years of which have been in a management and/or supervisory role. Outdoor Education Director candidates must have a commitment to equity and inclusion, creating a positive community work culture, and a commitment to the goals and philosophy of Camp Ocean Pines. While not required, a preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in science, experiential education, recreation, or equivalent, as well as experience in trauma-informed, culturally relevant, and culturally responsive teaching.

Camp Ocean Pines is committed to being more accessible and equitable. We encourage people from all backgrounds and identities to apply.

Compensation and Benefits: $56,000/year (full-time, year-round, exempt); 100% employee medical/vision; IRA matching; paid time off; paid education, training, and professional development opportunities. Housing is not included.

    Please apply online HERE.
