MISSION STATEMENT: Vida Verde is a nonprofit that promotes educational equity by providing free, overnight, environmental learning experiences for students who don’t otherwise get the opportunity.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Development Director (DD) role is a 40-hour/week, full-time, exempt leadership position, reporting to the Executive Director, Shawn Sears. Vida Verde's fundraising approach is well established and successful. We place high value on our relationships with all who contribute toward our mission, and strive toward a community-centric fundraising model. The development work itself is valued as integral and essential, and is at the "heart" of the organization right along with our programs and work with youth. To that end, the DD will maintain an energetic, positive, detail oriented, and improvement-driven leadership role both within the organization and as a representative of the organization to the wider community. They will identify, cultivate, and solicit contributions from foundations and individual donors. This person will meticulously manage the overall granting process and the database (DonorPerfect), and will work strategically to build and carry out an annual fundraising plan. The DD will work independently and often in close collaboration with the Executive Director, COO, and Director of Events & Administration. The current DD will be staying on in a limited & important capacity for training, consulting, support, and partnership. This role may manage one employee. We are hiring for this position or the posted Development Manager position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Vida Verde is a professional and dynamic nonprofit organization. The central site/office is located on our educational farm in rural San Gregorio California (15 minutes south of Half Moon Bay), and is often abuzz with activity as instructors, students, office staff, and volunteers work to support our mission. The Development Director must be able to work on site in rural San Gregorio, CA. After an initial period, remote work one to two days per week may be considered.
