Title: Nature Adventures Manager
Classification: Full-time (40/wk.), exempt or non-exempt DOE

Salary: $26.00 - $31.80/hr. commensurate with experience and internal equity

Position Summary: This hands-on position oversees and manages the Museum's informal education camp and after-school programs for K-6th grade and assists with other community programming. Responsible for the development, coordination, and evaluation of inquiry-based, nature-based classes and camps that align with the Museum mission.
Responsibilities:
- Create and run an annual schedule of camp and paid class offerings that are linked to the Museum’s mission and vision. This includes:
- Researching and developing age/skill-appropriate curriculum modules rooted in nature and science.
- Overseeing the registration process.
- Planning and managing the staffing of the camp and classes. Supervises camp counselors and counselors-in-training. Includes assisting with recruiting and hiring process; training scheduling, and evaluating class and camp staff and volunteers.
- Creating and overseeing the annual budget in a way to maximize net income while maintaining high quality programs with quality student to teacher ratios.
- Purchases/gathers needed education materials and supplies.
- Ensure that appropriate control and safety of class/students is maintained during sessions.
- Create, perform and analyze evaluation of programs.
- Interface with parents during registration, check-in, and check-out periods.
- Create and oversee a safe, nurturing, rich and stimulating learning environment.
- Process and maintain camp registrations, confirmations, and rosters.
- As needed, teach Nature Adventure children’s programs.
- Work with Marketing to promote Nature Adventure programs in the Museum communications, in other media, and in the community, as needed.
- Work with other departments in creating the educational experiences for Nature Adventures
- Responsible for departmental budgeting, income and expenses
- Provide data for annual reports, budgets, and grant proposals
- Support the Museum’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion for class and camp attendees, parents and guardians, fellow staff, guests and the community and work to implement the priorities relevant to Nature Education.
- Engage in positive, supportive interactions with children, parents, guardians, and Museum guests encountered during the course of the workday, cultivating a sense of inclusiveness among staff, children, parents, guardians and guests.
- Ensure Nature Adventure staff keeps classroom space clean and clear of clutter consistent with Museum safety protocols
- Participate and support Museum public programs, outreach programs, and special events as required
- Support and provide occasional coverage for other education division activities.

Requirements
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or science
- Experience in organizing, leading, and teaching classroom based informal educational programs or related work
- Experience in researching and developing curriculum for informal educational programs or related work
- Excellent communication and child-management skills
- Self-motivated, creative, and outgoing
- Strong administration and organizational experience as well as strong record keeping capabilities.
- Proven leadership skills
- Experience hiring and managing many employees at the same time
- Background in natural history/science
- Able to be at the Museum for the entire daily duration of scheduled classes and camps
Work Environment:
- This is an onsite position.
- General office environment with frequent work throughout the Museum’s facilities, classrooms and outdoors
- Significant telephone and computer work (repetitive movement – typing)
- Frequent interaction with children and adults.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and climbing stairs with occasional lifting of light loads (10 lbs)
