    The Camp Director oversees and implements effective outdoor programs for sleepaway summer camp participants, coordinates and leads weekend camping programs, and supports volunteer-led outdoor experiences, in compliance with council and GSUSA policies and procedures, ACA guidelines and state, local and federal laws.

    In this role, your essential duties will include (a full job description will be given during the recruiting process):

    • Planning, implementing, and managing fun, engaging, age-appropriate and safe outdoor summer and specialty weekend experiences for campers, staff, and volunteers that align with the Girl Scout and council mission, values, and outcomes.

    • Selecting your team, scheduling, training, overseeing, and evaluating staff and volunteers to successfully deliver programming; identifies and utilizes resources to support program goals.

    • Serves as a facilitator of team-building initiatives for In low elements, high elements, climbing walls, etc., as needed; maintains and reviews records and reports, assessing and evaluating all programs, annual evaluations, and recommendations for future operations.

    • Facilitate and maintain open and clear communications with campers, parents, volunteers and staff to address and resolve conflicts, child development issues, and parental concerns related to campers, camp or program activities.

    • Live on-site at assigned camp property in Julian during summer camp season and some weekend programs; in conjunction with property and outdoor teams, plan, teach, practice and perform emergency procedures.

    • Promote Girl Scouting in the community and recruit program participants from within and outside of Girl Scout membership, while maintaining positive parent, public, and community relations.

    • In concert with the Property and Outdoor teams, responsible for annual inspections, training, inventory and maintenance of equipment, scheduling and attending regular training sessions.

    • Review, revise, evaluate, and monitor programs and ensure best practices in compliance with council and GSUSA policies and procedures, ACA guidelines and state, local, and federal laws.

    • Contributes to the diversity emphasis of the council by ensuring that all materials, activities, and programs are sensitive to and reflective of the interests, values, and needs of all racial/ethnic groups, cultures, religions, and physical abilities.

    • Adheres to all council policies and procedures.

    Qualifications you’ll bring to this position:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, Youth Development, Counseling or equivalent work experience.

    • 2+ years’ experience in a supervisory/leadership role at an organized camp or related youth programs, highly preferred.

    • Current ACA camp director certification, or ability to acquire certification within first three months of employment.

    • At least 25 years of age per ACA requirements.

    • Demonstrated understanding of child development and ability to develop, implement and deliver age-appropriate programs.

    • Ability to effectively build and manage teams and foster a cohesive work and camp environment.

    • Exceptional problem-solving skills with an ability to make decisions and adjust plans in real-time when needed.

    • Ability to effectively manage competing and changing priorities to meet changing needs and demands.

    • Possess a high level of professionalism and integrity with the ability to maintain confidentiality of information and data.

    • Current certification or ability to obtain ACCT Level 1 certification and maintain skills by logging 50+ hours of facilitation per year and 4+ hours of continuing facilitation education.

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in a team setting with diverse staff, volunteers, campers and program participants.

    • Current CPR/First Aid certification.

    • Willingness and ability to live on-site at assigned camp property during summer camp and during some non-summer weekends as needed.

    • Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance, and access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required

    The pay range for this position is $65,000 - $66,500 annually
