CANOPY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Communications and Marketing Coordinator
Full-Time; Exempt
Local position based in Palo Alto, CA
Position Summary
Canopy is looking for a creative communications professional committed to using the power of stories to create long-lasting support for Canopy and its mission. The Communications and Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for Canopy’s brand reputation, gifted in both visual and written communications in order to expand our impact. The successful candidate will be comfortable in a variety of strategies, including digital, traditional, earned, and visual communications.
Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week position Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekend events.

Hybrid, partially working from home and the office. In-person presence of this position is important for understanding and reflecting Canopy’s community and brand.
Compensation and Benefits

Annual salary: starting at $60,000 per year

Sick leave: 12 days per year with maximum accrual is 12 sick days

Vacation time: 12 days (96 hours) per year with a maximum accrual of 18 days per year. Accrual rates increase after two years with Canopy

RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications and Marketing
-
Partner with Senior Director of Philanthropy as well as the Executive Director on communication and marketing strategy and planning
-
Create and manage annual content calendar
-
Serve as Canopy’s lead storyteller; craft messaging and package content for outreach and education campaigns across channels and audiences
-
Identify and engage new audiences and communities in Canopy’s programs
-
Work with Executive Director to garner media attention for Canopy's programs
-
Support program staff by producing compelling content, collateral and placement
-
Work with Director of Impact to assess and improve digital communication tools, especially with an eye towards supporting constituent journeys and building relationships
-
Prepare the monthly TreEnews, Volunteer Wire, and e-blasts
-
Curate content, write or assign copy, and manage Canopy’s blog
-
Create content and manage Canopy’s organic and paid presence on social media, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and any other appropriate and timely platforms
-
Track channel analytics and email performance regularly and adjust plans as needed

Manage program and office collateral creation and updates
-
Prepare advertisements for programs and events
-
Oversee updates of the website; maintain Website with future goal of website revisions or updates

Assist in conceptualizing and producing Canopy’s Annual Tree Awards community event
-
Coordinate with Senior Director of Philanthropy and Senior Director of Programs to prepare the Annual Report
Development Support
-
Assist with relationship stewardship and communication coordination
-
Support fundraising and relationship-building events
-
Assist in donor communications
-
Support development and fundraising activities, including support for major donor stewardship, and assist with fundraising appeals
Skills
-
2-4 years of working experience in communications or marketing departments (environmental sector experience preferred)
-
Demonstrated results in implementing marketing and communications strategic plans
-
Strong attention to detail and proven project management skills
-
Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
-
Strong copy-writing and editing skills
-
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems (WordPress preferred), email marketing, Google Office Suite, and other collaborative design and visual communication tools
-
Experience in event conception and planning preferred
-
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
