    SUMMARY OF POSITION

    North Cascades Institute (NCI) seeks an Operations Assistant (OA) to be an integral part of our Operations Team. In this role, the Operations Assistant works in the Housekeeping and Kitchen departments to help maintain operations. The ideal candidate is someone who is excited about the opportunity to gain experience in both departments. While housekeeping, this position will assist in maintaining our high quality cleanliness standards of our beautiful and earth-friendly facilities and premises and while in the kitchen they will work in key roles of dining operations. This position is based out of the Institute’s field campus in North Cascades National Park at the Institute’s Environmental Learning Center (ELC). The jobsite is in a remote National Park which can experience snow-covered roads, avalanches, wildfire, smoke, wild animals, and flooding. This is a seasonal, full time position supervised by the Operations Manager for housekeeping operations and the Food Service Supervisor for kitchen operations.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required
    ● Experience working as a housekeeper or similar position.
    ● One year or more professional food service experience or equivalent.
    ● Ability to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performance
    ● Strong prioritization and time management skills.
    ● Ability to model safe work habits and follow risk management practices.
    ● Ability to accommodate a varied work schedule including longer days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
    ● Reliable transportation to and from work.
    ● Ability to work with diverse or underrepresented populations.
    ● Final offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check that may include employment history, national criminal background check, national sex offender registry search and a driving history check.

    Preferred
    ● Previous housekeeping experience at other residential learning centers, camps, schools or similar facilities.
    ● Recycling, composting and waste handling experience.
    ● Experience using cleaning chemicals and following MSDS standards.
    ● Previous food service experience at other residential learning centers, camps, schools or similar facilities.
    ● Recycling, composting and waste handling experience.
    ● Basic first aid.

    COMPENSATION

    This is a seasonal, full-time, non-exempt position. This is a split wage position, with the job scheduled as assigned. For Housekeeping duties, the pay rate is $18.00-$19.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. For Cook duties, the pay rate is $20.00 - $22.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This position is subject to a $1 increase for utilizing non-NCI housing. The job location for this position is at the Environmental Learning Center.

    Benefits include the following:
    ● Paid holidays: 8 days
    ● Sick leave: ~8 hours per month
    ● Vacation leave: 4 days
    ● Service Days: 2 days per year
    ● Ability to participate in Institute pro deals
    ● Yearly stipend to participate in Institute programs.

    Benefits are prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week. Employees are responsible for their own health insurance.

    This is a bargaining unit position represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, District Lodge 751. All terms and conditions of employment are subject to change in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement.

    HOUSING

    Subsidized housing available. Private rooms in shared houses are often available. In some cases, roommates in shared rooms may be required.
