    Job Title: Program Coordinator

    Location: Santa Barbara, CA

    Opportunity:

    Join the team at The Outdoor School at Rancho Alegre and immerse yourself in the stunning natural surroundings of the Los Padres National Forest in Santa Barbara, CA. As the Program Coordinator, you will be a key member of our leadership team, responsible for leading cabin leaders, assisting in curriculum and program development, and facilitating staff development and evaluations for naturalists. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of our educational programs while working in a beautiful outdoor setting.

    Overview:

    As a Program Coordinator at The Outdoor School at Rancho Alegre, you will play a pivotal role in training cabin leaders, curriculum and program development, and delivering our educational programs. This is a full-time seasonal position, and housing is provided during the season's start and end dates.


    Season Dates: 

    March 25th - June 7th, with the possibility of signing on for our 2024-2025 school year.


    Responsibilities:

      • Lead cabin leader training and serve as the first contact for cabin leaders.

      • Assist in curriculum and program development, working directly with the Director.

      • Lead curriculum-based hikes, nature walks, and environmental education activities for student groups.

      • Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, including wildlife observation, plant identification, and nature exploration.

      • Collaborate with fellow Naturalists and program staff to coordinate logistics, schedule activities, and ensure the smooth operation of programs.

      • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for students, encouraging curiosity, exploration, and respect for nature.

      • Serve as a positive role model for students, embodying principles of environmental stewardship, conservation, and outdoor ethics.

      • Maintain equipment, supplies, and program materials, ensuring proper care and organization.

      • Assist in staff training and professional development opportunities.

    • Participate in conflict resolution and discipline through positive behavioral management.
    • Be available point of contact/ on call by phone and to assist staff as needed, during all scheduled programs.
      • Ability to be on call one night a week

      • Ability to hike 5+ miles a day 


    Qualifications:

    • College degree or 2+ years of experience in the outdoor education field.

    • Strong knowledge of outdoor recreation activities, environmental science concepts, and experiential learning methodologies.

    • Demonstrated experience in program planning, coordination, and evaluation.

    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

    • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and independently with minimal supervision.

    • Experience working with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and individuals with special needs.

    • Passion for outdoor education, environmental conservation, and youth development.

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • Bilingual in Spanish 

    • 3 years of Outdoor Education Experience 

    • Leadership and Team Management Experience
