    Are you passionate about environmental education and empowering students through experiential learning? Join us at Westminster Woods Camp and Conference Center, nestled in 200 acres of stunning redwood forest in the scenic coastal hills of Western Sonoma County, California.

    About Us: Westminster Woods is dedicated to providing transformative outdoor education experiences for students in grades five through eight. Our immersive programs blend environmental education with character development, fostering a love for nature and promoting social-emotional learning. We're committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community where every individual can thrive.

    Position Overview: We're seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Teacher Naturalists/Challenge Course Facilitators. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to lead hands-on, student-centered experiences in the great outdoors, incorporating inquiry-based learning, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). From guiding students through coastal redwood ecosystems to facilitating high ropes courses, you'll play a vital role in shaping unforgettable experiences for our participants.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead engaging outdoor experiences, integrating inquiry-based learning and SEL principles.
    • Facilitate challenge course activities, fostering interpersonal and intrapersonal development.
    • Ensure student safety through effective risk management and first aid administration.
    • Tailor programs to meet the unique needs of each school group, incorporating teacher requests and student interests.
    • Lead meals and evening programs, as well as weekend activities.
    • Provide post-trip assessments to evaluate student learning and experiences.
    • Attend staff meetings and trainings.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in education, science, environmental studies, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain before employment.
    • Physical fitness for outdoor work in all weather conditions and on varied terrain, including the ability to work at heights up to 50ft (strongly preferred).
    • Commitment to inclusiveness, diversity, and effective communication.
    • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Previous teaching experience, preferably in outdoor settings.
    • Familiarity with inquiry-based education, science, and natural history.
    • Experience with high ropes courses.
    • Advanced degree or teaching credential.
    • Proficiency in a second language or experience with English Language Learners.
    • Current Lifeguard or Wilderness First Aid certification.

    Compensation: Hourly starting at $15.50/hour (or $18.50/hour without housing), with opportunities for regular increases. Overtime may be available.

    Housing: On-site housing may be available at a reduced rate.
