    Description:

    The City's Recreation and Parks Department is seeking interested applicants willing to work 5-40 hours a week (not to exceed 999 hours in a fiscal year) in various recreation programs and City facilities which may include community centers, parks and sports fields. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and possess strong organization and communication skills with a deep commitment for excellence and experience providing responsible recreation programs in a diverse community. Candidates may be assigned to any of the following program areas: Aquatics, Kiddie Kollege, Summer Day Camp, and Youth Sports depending on experience.

    Recreation Leaders may perform a variety of semi-skilled duties within various programs and activities of the Recreation and Parks Department; assists groups and individuals who are engaged in recreational activities, using recreation facilities, and performs other related work as required.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Essential Functions: The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity.

    • Kiddie Kollege: Recreation Leaders will plan, organize, and supervise exciting age-appropriate recreational and educational activities for preschool-aged children. Prior experience and/or bilingual skills are highly desired.
    • Summer Day Camp: Recreation Leaders plan, develop, organize and implement fun and exciting activities for school-aged youth. Develops relationships with families and participants providing a safe, fun, and nurturing environment.
    • Youth Sports: Recreation Leaders will plan and supervise recreation activities for youth ages 5-14. Experience with sports, a desire to teach game fundamentals, and/or athletic background is highly desired.
    • Aquatics Cashier: Recreation Leaders provide customer service, answering phones and maintains front desk operations; registers, collects payment and admits participants into the pool area; assists with the set-up and clean-up of daily aquatics programs

    Examples of Typical Job Functions:

    • Leads, oversees and participates in the activities of participates in various recreation programs and events; maintains attendance and activity reports;
    • Assembles supplies, sets up equipment for various programs and events;
    • Maintains discipline at assigned location; enforces rules and regulations governing assigned programs; addresses problems or concerns that may occur; facilitates resolution or enlists assistance from senior recreation staff; and
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and ability would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    • Education: Coursework in special events, sports, education and related recreation courses is highly desired.
    • Experience: Entry level experience/expertise relevant to the particular activity to which assigned.

    Licenses/certifications/other requirements:

    • Must be at least 16 years of age by June 1, 2025. Must be willing to work such hours as are necessary to accomplish the job requirements; travel to recreation facilities and meetings.
    • Must obtain a negative TB test by date of hire.
    • Must obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and American Red Cross Standard First Aid certifications.
