Full-Time Temporary Summer Camp Educator

Reports to: Director of Education
Status: Hourly, Temporary (Summer+), Non-Exempt, 30-40 Hours per Week
Estimated Start and End Dates: June 9th - August 5th, 2025, 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday
Compensation: $20-$22 per hour (based on relevant experience)

About MEarth:

MEarth is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to educating and inspiring environmental stewardship. Located at the Hilton Bialek Habitat in Carmel, we serve community members and students throughout Monterey County and the surrounding areas. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Summer Camp Educator to work with 1st-8th grade students in an outdoor learning environment.

This is a full-time, temporary summer position. You will work directly with the Director of Education and Environmental Stewardship Educators to deliver a meaningful summer camp experience for participants. Weekly hours will not exceed 40.

Key Responsibilities:

Educational Support

• Assist in leading educational programs for MicroGreens, EcoExplorers, and our Scholarship summer camps in alignment with our mission to inspire environmental stewardship.
  

• Supervise and engage campers in activities such as recess, breaks, games, gardening, hiking, cooking, and habitat exploration, ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.

• Provide additional supervision during instructor breaks and lunches to maintain coverage and ensure campers stay engaged and well-supervised.

• Set up and clean up for craft, art, and culinary activities, maintaining a clean and functional learning space for participants.
  

• Work with and direct volunteers of all ages to help maintain smooth daily operations and enhance the learning experience for campers.
  

• Lead campers in garden harvest and other activities, following established protocols to support safety and hands-on learning.
  

• Assist with garden and property maintenance, contributing to the overall care of shared spaces.

Organizational Support

• Provide support with program evaluation, data collection, and analysis to inform future programming.
  

• Maintain and care for the LEED-certified classroom and outdoor kitchen spaces to ensure cleanliness and functionality.
  

• Ensure the Habitat remains clean and free of litter.
  

• Perform daily cleaning tasks, including dishwashing and laundry, making up approximately 25%-33% of work hours.
  

Key Qualifications:

• Passion for inspiring youth leadership.
  

• Ability to make outdoor learning fun and engaging.
  

• Educational background in environmental science, education, or a related field.
  

• Experience managing and teaching groups of students in various settings (outdoors, classroom, camps, etc.).
  

• Organic gardening or farming experience, or a willingness to learn.
  

• Culinary arts or kitchen experience, or a willingness to learn.
  

• Commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all students.
  

• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and independently with attention to detail.
  

Additional Beneficial Qualifications:

• Experience working in the nonprofit sector.
  

• Proficiency in Apple products and Google platforms (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive).
  

• Experience working with underserved communities in nutrition and outdoor education.
  

• Fluency in a foreign language (especially Spanish) is a plus.
  

• ServSafe Certification.
  

• CPR / First Aid / AED Certification.
  

Physical Requirements:

• Operate computers, calculators, printers, and other office equipment efficiently.
  

• Lift and carry supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
  

Working Conditions:

• This position requires bending, crouching, or kneeling to access information and assist students/volunteers/interns from ground level to 4.5 feet above the ground.
  

• Pushing, pulling, and lifting instructional equipment and supplies may be required.
  

• Sitting on chairs/ground/floor, cleaning program areas, and leaning over for prolonged periods of time.
  

• Walking on uneven surfaces and working outdoors for extended periods.
  

Background Check Requirements:

Successful completion of the hiring process requires passing a multi-agency Livescan fingerprint/background check and a TB test. These expenses are covered by MEarth.
