    Position Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced freelance Ropes Director available to work seasonally during Fall and Spring months on weekdays in a variety of locations. The Ropes Director manages ropes course set up, safety, operation, and tear down on our youth programs that involve these activities. Each student program is generally 3-5 days in length and take place at a variety of camps and properties with ropes courses throughout California. Ropes course activities usually run on 1-2 days during the students' program, amidst other activities that are guided by our Outdoor Educators.

    Position Qualifications:
Current Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) Level 2 certification
    Current First Aid / CPR
Ability to pass a background check / live scan
Experience working on and managing ropes courses with multiple elements
Experience working with children in an outdoor setting
Proficiency with ropes course set up and course/equipment inspection
Proficiency with belay procedures on Gri Gri+ model
Reliable transportation to get to program sites
Access to personal safety gear relevant to the job including a climbing helmet certified for ropes course use

    Position Responsibilities:
Including but not limited to what is outlined in the list below:

General Outline of Ropes Director Expectations
Prior to welcoming student participants on to the ropes course:
Familiarize self with ropes course site being used, if not already – if this means arriving to the location the day prior, the Program Coordinator or Program Manger from Positive Adventures can coordinate that with you.
Complete any required course/gear checks per the site's standards, as well as per industry standards and PA policy.
Introducing the student group(s) to the ropes course:
Introduce ropes course flow and elements to student groups as they have their turn with the activities.
PA uses the "challenge circle" or "choice circle" intro activity to align with students on their appropriate level of challenge and participation.
Thoroughly demonstrate participant gear use (helmet, harness) to every student group as they rotate through – instruct on how to put on and adjust a helmet and harness, as well as the proper required fit.
Belay commands are taught to students prior to climbing, as well as the components of the CRASHH or SHARC check (Carabiner, Rope, Attitude, Stuff, Helmet, Harness - PA staff will do this check with each participant prior to climbing).
Work in conjunction with PA field staff team to effectively rotate trail groups of students through ropes course elements.
Oversee the course in full while multiple elements are running – observe that all staff, whether from PA team or site-specific team, are using proper belay technique. PA uses Gri-gri+ belay equipment ideally at each site, as that is the equipment our staff is trained with.
Operate more logistical elements like "Leap of Faith" or zipline if applicable.
Be prepared for rescue of participants at all times – PA staff are not trained in rescue techniques and would thus defer to Ropes Director should a student become entangled, stuck, extreme panic attack, unconscious, etc. while on a ropes element.
Defer to the PA Course Director (on-site lead for the program) for timing questions or other logistics.

    Benefits:
Daily rate of $350 for days that the ropes course is operated with student participants.
Additional preparation & training time paid if PA or the program site requires an orientation to the ropes course.
Gas/mileage reimbursement from your normal work location / home area to the program site – reimbursed after payroll approval.
Access to a camp meal on site during the days you are scheduled to work.

    How to Apply:
Send an email introducing yourself to pajobs@positiveadventures.com. Please include a resume, your current ACCT Level 2 certification, and a comprehensive work log listing ropes course hours.

Thank you for your interest, we look forward to connecting!

    Job Type: Part-time
    Pay: $350.00 per day
    Expected hours: 8 – 16 per week
Schedule: 8 hour shift, Monday to Friday
    Work Location: On the road
