    Long-Term Substitute Registered Camp Nurse

    The San Diego County Office of Education is seeking a highly motivated, caring, professional, long-term substitute registered camp nurse to join our health center team from August 25, 2025 - December19, 2025 at the original 6th Grade Camp, Cuyamaca Outdoor School. The residential outdoor education program, in operation since 1946, is located an hour east of San Diego in the 25,000-acre Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, elevation 4,000 feet. We connect children to science through nature in a weeklong, hands-on, outdoor education experience. Our health center team is outgoing, hard-working, energetic, and has a genuine desire to make a positive difference in children’s lives.

    Position Details:

     Under the direction of the principal oversees, the Long-Term Substitute Camp Nurse maintains, and supervises the day-to-day operations of the health service program at an assigned outdoor school; performs highly skilled professional nursing services and first aid care to students and staff in an outdoor education school. 

    Essential Functions:

    • Oversees, maintains, and supervises the day-to-day operations of the health service program at an assigned outdoor school.
    • Works under a doctor’s standing orders to provide nursing care for sick students and staff members.
    • Provides health care to meet individual needs of camp staff and students and administers first aid.
    • Organizes, maintains, and utilizes adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of camp staff and students. Cleans and maintains health center, medical equipment, and linens.
    • Maintains accurate and detailed medical records according to state and SDCOE standards, including preparing and utilizing a daily medical log for treatment and medications.
    • Dispenses medications.
    • Reviews all student health forms.
    • Contacts school nurses, school staff, and parents.
    • Responds to questions from schools, staff, and parents regarding Outdoor Education safety and health services.
    • Makes recommendations regarding policies and procedures in safety and health-related areas and interprets these policies and procedures for staff and community.
    • Prepares and distributes first aid kits to camp staff and throughout camp; ensures supplies are re-stocked as needed.
    • Develops health services goals and procedures; evaluate and monitor practices and procedures related to effective techniques and health and safety requirements; recommend practices for improvement.

    Salary and Compensation Plan:

    Long-Term Substitute Camp Nurse Compensation Plan: $41.07 hourly rate; starting on August 25, 2025 - December 19, 2025; 40 hour work week, hours vary per day and could include some evenings.

    Meals provided during program; on-site housing available.

    Requirements/Qualifications:

    • A combination of training and experience providing direct health care services or emergency medical assistance.
    • Demonstrates a positive attitude, adaptable personality, and strong work ethic.
    • Strong organization and communication skills, both oral and written.

    Certificate/License Requirements: 

    • A current California Registered Nurse license and a copy must be attached to online application.
    • An original Registered Nurse license must be presented prior to appointment.
    • RNs are required to maintain their license.
    • A current American Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification with AED Certification
