    Walker Creek Ranch is located in rural West Marin on 1700 acres of beautiful ranch land and is owned and operated by Marin County Office of Education.  We offer residential environmental education programs tailored toward 5th and 6th grade students.  The outdoor school is dedicated to providing equitable, inclusive, and high quality educational experiences for teachers and students that inspire appreciation and stewardship of the natural world.

    Overview  

    This is a ten-month paid internship in which Interns are responsible for leading hikes, team building, and lessons for groups of approximately twenty students from a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds. Interns receive paid training and continuing mentorship throughout the school year.

     

    Responsibilities

    Create a safe, equitable, and inclusive learning environment for students to have a positive outdoor experience.  Plan and teach hands-on Environmental Science curriculum aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.  Lead activities in various habitats, including bay-oak woodlands, pond, creek, tide pools, and ranch garden. Model and encourage environmentally responsible behavior.  Applicants should be physically able to work long hours and participate in strenuous activity.  Position requires flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team. Responsibilities also include working two evening programs a week.

    Desired Qualifications

    Experience working with children.   Course work and/or experience in Natural Sciences, Environmental Education, Interpretation, or Outdoor Recreation.  Ability to speak a second language.  Ability to play a musical instrument.  Interest and/or experience in working with diverse populations.  Enthusiasm and passion for working with youth outdoors.

     

    Compensation

    $132/day (Based on 8-hour workday at $16.50/hr.). Room and board provided. Duration of internship: ASAP- June 5th, 2026.
