    Salary: $850 per week, full time with benefits and optional on-site housing

    Year Round, start date late January or early February

    POSITION SUMMARY: 

    This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  The Mobile Science Naturalist will be responsible for implementing the mobile program offering at Camp Campbell Outdoor Science School. This includes creating curriculum, marketing, scheduling, and delivering the program. Program should be adaptable and based on the principles of conservation biology, fosters environmental awareness, emulates YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and is aligned with the California state framework and the next generation science standards. 

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • BA or BS preferably in the field of science or environmental studies and/or equivalent experience

    • Enthusiastic, Fun, Great Personality. 

    • Ability to effectively interact with participants, parents, and staff.  

    • Shows initiative and problem-solving skills. 

    • Certifications: CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention & Risk Management. (can be obtained when hired)

    • Ability to become Y Driver. 

    • Experience working with marginalized populations and Spanish fluency strongly preferred. 

    • Available on weekends and evenings as needed. 

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

    • Research, write, and update lesson plans appropriate to program goals and aligned with state and national education standards.  

    • Conduct natural science lessons establishing and utilizing responsive teaching situations; lead interpretive activities in a variety of ecosystems. 

    • Engage staff, volunteers, and participants within the environmental science arena at off-site locations. 

    • Prepare and maintain supplies for all lessons being offered. 

    • Create and Market program details for Afterschool sites and Elementary schools. 

    • Professional communication with key stakeholders via phone, email, and in-person. 

    • Maintain schedule and booking calendar. 

    • Attend meetings and trainings necessary to be successful. 

    • Ability to support on-site CCOSS program as needed. 

    • Performs other duties as assigned.
