    Compensation: $19.00 – $21.00/hour (based on experience)

    About the Role

    Western Camps, Inc. is seeking an Evening Manager on Duty to oversee and support our dynamic evening programs. This floating leadership role is ideal for experienced educators who enjoy facilitating community-focused activities, mentoring peers, and jumping in where needed to ensure program excellence.

    This role is ideal for someone looking for a consistent, immersive role supporting group experiences, with a primary focus on Outdoor Education while occasionally servicing other groups or customers utilizing the premises.

    What You’ll Do

    As the Evening Manager on Duty, you will:

    • Oversee and lead evening programming, ensuring a smooth, engaging, and safe experience for all students and staff.

    • Act as the point of contact for instructors and guests during evening hours.

    • Model best practices in instruction, engagement, safety, and guest interaction.

    • Provide mentorship and guidance to new and returning instructors, particularly during evening operations.

    • Support program logistics, including setup, transitions, and last-minute adjustments.

    • Check in with other groups on-site during evenings when Wonder Valley is hosting multiple programs or events simultaneously.

    • Step in for light instructional coverage during daytime or evening classes when needed.

    • Assist with daily coordination tasks, such as managing rotations, supervising student transitions, or meal monitoring.

    • Help maintain program quality by offering in-the-moment coaching and feedback to staff.

    • Monitor student behavior and respond to escalated issues or emergencies, following safety protocols.

    • Maintain communication with the Program Director, sharing updates, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.

    • Provide exceptional customer service to all guests, including students, teachers, chaperones, and other on-site groups.

    • Support additional departments (e.g., MOD shifts) or other duties as assigned.

    Required Competencies

    All Outdoor Education Instructor competencies, plus:

    • Evening Program Leadership – Confidently leads and oversees evening events; ensures tone, safety, and quality across programs.

    • Flexibility & Adaptability – Can pivot between leadership, instruction, and support roles as needed.

    • Team Support – Builds positive team culture and morale, especially during evening hours.

    • Problem-Solving – Quickly and calmly responds to unforeseen issues, behavioral concerns, or program adjustments.

    • Mentorship & Coaching – Supports the development of peer instructors through feedback, guidance, and modeling.

    • Professional Communication – Maintains clear and timely communication with staff and leadership.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 3+ years of experience working with youth in outdoor education, camps, or experiential learning programs.

    • Previous experience in a leadership, supervisory, or mentor role.

    • Strong group management and facilitation skills.

    • Familiarity with NGSS and California State Standards (grades 4–8).

    • Comfortable with both instructional and recreational facilitation (e.g., archery, canoeing, ropes).

    • CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain before start date).

    Physical Requirements

    • Able to stand, walk, and participate in outdoor programs for extended periods, in varying weather.

    • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs of equipment or supplies.

    • Participate in physically active programs (e.g., hiking, canoeing, ropes course, games).

    • Maintain energy and focus during evening shifts and occasional daytime coverage.
