    Compensation:   $25.00-$30.00 per hour                         

                              $100.00/month Wellness allowance, Sick leave,

    Science Discovery provides environmental education programs to thousands of students each year throughout the central coast of California. You can make a positive difference by engaging learners of all ages, helping them to understand, appreciate, and explore

    the natural resources upon which we all depend. Extensive training and observation opportunities are provided to promote a successful transition into the various programs the Environmental Education Specialist will deliver to schools.

    Description:

    The Environmental Education Specialist (EES) drives to schools throughout San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties to give class programs. In most cases a company van is provided for transportation. Topics presented include Recycling, Vermicomposting, Water Conservation, Stormwater Pollution Prevention, and Marine Debris, wastewater facilities, lakes and the Salina River. Workdays include up to six class programs or a combination of several class programs and one field trip.  Other miscellaneous tasks include preparation and maintenance of teaching materials, training sessions, office administration, and staff meetings.

    Science Discovery also provides live, virtual education programs through our studio.

     Hours / Days:

    • Monday – Friday

      As early as 7:00am to as late as 4:30pm

    Qualifications/Requirements:
    •        Coursework in Environmental Studies or closely related field
    •        At least one year of relevant experience, volunteer or paid                     
    •       Experience in presenting science-based topics to multiple grade levels
    •       Skills and knowledge to adjust presentations depending on classroom or    environmental conditions
    •        Excellent communication skills
    •       Ability to work well with children
    •        Capacity to be a self-starter and work independently as needed
    •       Team oriented work ethic
    •       Flexible weekly schedule
    •       Lift and carry 30 pounds for a distance of 50 feet
    •       Completion of background check

    Is This You?

    Applicants should have excellent speaking/teaching skills and the ability to monitor and adjust as the situation requires. Your presentation style is lively and engaging. You can create a meaningful and fun learning environment in any situation. A science background is helpful but not mandatory.
