    ELIGIBILITY

       EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

    • ·         Associates or Bachelor’s degree recommended

      CERTIFICATIONS OR VERIFIED SKILLS 

    • ·         Minimum ACCT Level 2 Certification required.
    • ·         ACCT Challenge Course Managers Certification preferred.
    • ·         Must be able to work at height (up to 80ft.).
    • ·         Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
    • ·         Must have experience or certifications in training Challenge Course practitioners.
    • ·         Must have experience or certification in inspecting Challenge Courses.
    • ·         Must have experience or certification in building and repairing Challenge Courses.

      EXPERIENCE

    • ·         Experience managing a diverse team.
    • ·         At least 2 years’ experience directly facilitating Challenge Course experiences, preferably in youth development.
    • ·         Preferred familiarity with Westminster Woods’ Challenge Course.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Westminster Woods is camp and conference center located in Occidental, CA with three distinct program areas: School Programs, Guest Services and Summer Programs. We maintain a unique and diverse Challenge Course, nestled into a beautiful redwood canyon, which consists of 13 high ropes elements & 18 low ropes elements. The Challenge Course is utilized in uniquely by each of our three program departments to deliver excellent character and community development programming.

    The Challenge Course Manager oversees all operations of the Westminster Woods Challenge Course. This position ensures that the daily Challenge Course operations run smoothly.

    POSITION TASKS

    • ·         Hire, train, support, schedule and supervise the Challenge Course Coordinator and Technicians. Assist in the hiring, training and support of Challenge Course Facilitators.
    • ·         Oversee all inspections, maintenance, and building of all Challenge Course elements and gear, according to ACCT standards.
    • ·         Supervise the daily flow of Challenge Course operations including interfacing with staff and participants.
    • ·         Coordinate with Professional Vendor Members for professional inspections, training and purchasing equipment.
    • ·         Ensure all Legal Liability Insurance policies are upheld.
    • ·         Coordinate with and support the other departments of Westminster Woods (School Programs, Guest Services & Summer Programs).
    • ·         Perform “Rescues” when needed.
    • ·         Assist with Challenge Course elements as either a Facilitator or a Technician when needed.
    • ·         In collaboration with the Westminster Woods Executive Director, develop the long-term strategy for the Challenge Course department. Create steps to ensure that vision is implemented.
    • ·         Communicate and coordinate with outside organizations on matters of the Challenge Course on behalf of Westminster Woods.

    POSITION EXPECTATIONS

    • ·         Demonstrate a complete knowledge of the operations of all Challenge Course activities at Westminster Woods.
    • ·         Be comfortable working at height and have the requisite skill set in order to properly maintain all Challenge Course Elements.
    • ·         Demonstrate exemplary communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively lead a diverse team of highly skilled leaders in potentially challenging or emotionally demanding situations. 
    • ·         Operate the Challenge Course in accordance with Westminster Woods Course Policy, ACCT Standards, California Law, and Industry Common Practice.
    • ·         Guide the vision and direction of the Challenge Course department.
    • ·         Build and develop the Challenge Course team.
    • ·         Collaborate with other departments to fulfill the larger mission of Westminster Woods as well as each program’s individual missions.

    TIME COMMITMENT

    Full time, year-round, hourly position. Typically, 30-40 hours per week.       

    BENEFITS PROVIDED

    • ·         Sick time is accrued at 4 hours per month, (6 days a year).
    • ·         Vacation – 6 days a year are accrued in the first year. 12 days in year two. 13 days in year three, 14 days in year four. 15 days in year five.  
    • ·         12 paid holidays per year. 
    • ·         Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits are included.  The employee pays 25% of the cost of the insurance. 

    SALARY RANGE

    $30-$35/ hour
