    Westminster Woods Camp and Conference Center is located on 200 acres of redwood forest in the coastal hills of Western Sonoma County, California. We offer year-round opportunities for connection, reflection, discovery, and growth through School Programs, Summer Programs, and Guest Group Rentals. Our Challenge Course programming supports all of our departments in delivering an engaging experience in which participants of all ages can build self-confidence, develop teambuilding skills, and foster community.

    JOB TITLE

    Challenge Course Technician.

    JOB ORGANIZATION LEVEL

    Entry Level Challenge Course Staff.

    DIRECT SUPERVISOR

    Challenge Course Manager and Challenge Course Coordinator.

    ELIGIBILITY

    EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

    High School Education or G.E.D. (min.)

    CERTIFICATIONS OR VERIFIED SKILLS 

    • Challenge Course Technicians will receive site specific training on the Westminster Woods Challenge Course, with potential to receive a Level 1 ACCT Facilitator certification.
    • Challenge Course Technicians must be able to work at height (min 30ft.)
    • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50Lbs.
    • ACCT Level 1 or Level 2 Facilitator Certification recommended but not required.

    EXPERIENCE

    • Preferred experience working in childcare.
    • Preferred experience belaying and using climbing gear.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Challenge Course Technician is primarily a supporting role to assist in the operation of Challenge Course Elements that require more than one facilitator to operate. This position will work in tandem with our programming to support the use of our Challenge Course. This position will be working primarily with children ages ranging from K-12th grade, as well as adult guest groups.

    POSITION TASKS  

    • Set up and take down of the Challenge Course including: elements, gear and personal protective equipment.
    • Support in Element Facilitation including: belaying, working at height, and working with participants in potential stressful/ high emotional situations.
    • Perform regular maintenance and inspection of the Challenge Course Elements and all gear.
    • Occasionally assist with larger Challenge Course Department projects.
    • There is potential for more work assisting School Programs or other departments.
    • Employees with on-sight housing are expected to assist with night programs and running meals.

    POSITION EXPECTATIONS

    Challenge Course Technicians will be expected to maintain a respectful and professional demeanor appropriate to working with children in a school environment. Westminster Woods operates rain or shine, and Technicians will be expected to be able to work outside during inclement weather. Challenge Course Technicians will be accommodating and supportive of all guests at Westminster Woods and encourage participants on the Challenge Course to “go outside of their comfort zone” while respecting our Course motto of “Challenge by Choice”.

    TIME COMMITMENT

    Full Time, Seasonal employment. (min of 4 days work per week.)

    (Potential for more work with other departments. i.e. Meals, Night Programs, Buildings and Grounds, Summer Camp)

    SALARY, HOURLY, CONTRACT

    Salary is hourly and dependent on training and experience. Potential for immediate and regular pay raises dependent on gained course experience.

    BENEFITS PROVIDED

    Housing is possibly available on site at a significantly reduced rate.

    SALARY RANGE

    $17-20 per hour.
