    Position Summary

As a School Year Instructor, you’ll be the mentor and guide for a “Research Group” of 10–16 students during our 3- to 5-day programs. You’ll teach up to five 90-minute hands-on classes each day (including one nighttime session), nurturing curiosity and excitement about physical science, physics, and the wonders of the cosmos. Most importantly, you’ll ensure the safety and well-being of your students, both in the classroom and on thrilling outdoor adventures.

    Essential Responsibilities
    • Teach Engaging Programs: Present AstroCamp’s curriculum in fun, hands-on ways—indoors and out—while prioritizing student safety.
    • Foster Learning: Demonstrate a solid understanding of the class content (we’ll help you grow your science knowledge during your training, too!).
    • Maintain Facilities: Help keep our classrooms and equipment in excellent condition.
    • Collaborate: Work closely with fellow instructors and staff to deliver an exceptional experience for every visiting school group.
    • Stay Professional: Enforce safety regulations, handle emergencies per our protocols, and promptly communicate any concerns with the Program Director.
    • Team Spirit: Participate in staff training, leadership sessions, and group projects—together, we make the magic happen!
    • Physical Readiness: Be prepared to lift, carry, and move gear, and drive company vehicles if needed.
    Qualifications
    • Education: BS/BA (preferred in Physics, Astronomy, or STEM; all majors encouraged to apply)
    • Experience: Previous teaching or camp experience is a plus, but a passion for working with children and sharing knowledge is essential.
    • Certifications: First Aid, CPR, and lifeguarding (or willingness to obtain these upon arrival)
    • Personal Traits: Enthusiastic, flexible, organized, with strong communication skills and a sense of humor and ready to be a part of a small, close-knit community
    • Working With Children: Must pass a LiveScan background check and be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
    • Physical Capabilities: Able to identify and respond to environmental hazards, with sufficient mobility, visual, and auditory skills.
    Compensation & Benefits
    • Pay: Starting at $20.50/hour
    • On-Site Housing: Furnished apartments on our beautiful campus
    • Travel Stipend: Varies by location of applicant
    • Meals: Three meals a day plus snacks
    • Insurance: Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance (eligible the 1st of the month after 30 days of full-time employment)
    • Retirement: 403(b) Retirement Plan after 2 years of service

    Additional Perks:

    • Workers’ Compensation and State Disability Insurance
    • Guest visitation privileges (with prior permission)
    • Opportunity to live and work in a scenic mountain setting under some of California’s clearest night skies
